Hi there

I am a very proud owner of Wednesday a beautiful 18 month old staffordshire bull terrier. Wednesday is amazing with my children and cats and any other people we meet. She had issues with food possession we have over come but she is still horrible with other dogs. She lived with my Labrador from 6 weeks old and was very good with him nut no others, does any body have any advice re the best and safest way to get her to socialize?

Hi Inez and Kathy, thank you very much :)we keep trying but she is even aggressive with puppies that pass and goes mad if a dog comes on the telly :/ I would love for her to come to the park with us because she is so affectionate with people and the kids love to take her every where with them but I worry about what would happen x

Could you try distracting her with a special toy and when she stops treat her. It is time consuming but with patience it will help I am sure.

I will definitely try that willing to try anything that means she can spend full days out with us in the summer off her lead x

Maybe a friend just stading in the distance with their dog for a period of time until she's not reacting seeing him/her and then How about a friend with a friendly dog perhaps passing at a distance and gradually over a time Inching closer until they are walking on lead, all with the upmost caution, it will take lots of time and patience and even then still she may not be comfortable in the company of other dogs, perhaps you could enquire at your vets about a trainer/behaviourist that may be able to help.

Do try it and use the toy only for that, when you return put it away. Always treat with something tasty sausage or something she doesn't usually have. And do stay calm as she will pick up on it, I always when walking by other dogs have a treat and tell Vinnie "Watch me" putting the treat on the top of my nose, when you are passed treat straight away. If you start the watch me command now even at home it will hopefully help.
