Sun protection for dogs

Can anyone advise on sun protection for dogs? Some people have said you can use kids sunblock? The weathers been quite warm here over the past few days and Reggie will need some protection

I would like to know as well as I have a sunbather here

Teddy loves laying in the garden when the sun is out but his fur is quite thin in places belly, ears and around his nose.

We use kids sunblock on the advise of various trainers. Make sure it is fragrance free etc. It is much better than the ones you get especially for dogs and tends to have a higher protection factor. With Roxy having a white chest and very little tummy hair; and Vinny having a white face and chest, we make sure they are well protected.

We use a waterproof kids sunblock, I think SPF 50. Roxy's good at sitting still having it sprayed straight on to her chest. Vinny's not a fan so I spray it on my hands first and then rub it on making it "cuddle and coo" time to try and get him to associate it with fun

We use kids sunblock to, simple is totally fragrance free. Darcy has very little chest hair so that's great for it.

Yup, agree with those above the childrens sun block should be fine to use on your dog, if you have any concerns contact the vet surgery and have a word with the nurse.

we have sunscreen for our Skye, but she hates it - runs around daft trying to rub it off. Might be worth checking out here:

It's actually recommended for white or partially white dogs that you use sun screen with them to prevent damage to the skin.

The best type of sun screen to go for is a non-scented baby sunscreen. Check the ingredients first though to make sure there is no zinc oxide in there, as this is toxic to dogs.

If I were you, I'd test it on a small patch of his skin before you apply it all over. Just to make sure he isn't overly sensitive or allergic to any ingredients.

I use coconut oil as sun block here

Great thanks for all the advice guys ill get a suitable one & do a patch test on him.. Ella never heard of using coconut oil as sunblock. That may be a good natural alternative

Bacon uses a dog sunscreen by a company called "Epi Pet". My vet told me to make sure to use a sunscreen that does not have Zinc ( I think). Anyways, I had a hard time finding one so I just bought this one to be sure it was ok to use.

It's a spray-on and other than Bacon hating it, seems to work just fine!
