Rough play. Empty Rough play.

Hi peeps. This is my first post and thought as there is so much good advise on here i should ask the question.. We have had Frankie for 4 weeks now (witch makes him 12 weeks today). In that time i have toilet trained him' and he will sit and give his paw' and he lays down' and he will sit and wait until i say so. He is a real joy and we love him in our family. BUT the question i want to ask is ROUGH PLAY ?? am i ok to play with my hand rather than a toy?? he get a bit carried away sometimes and when is say no he stops witch is fine BUT am i encouraging him to bite hands..?? . The last thing i want to do is make him think it's ok to bite people on the hand.. should i stop..???

As long as Frankie understands when you say stop then I don't see a problem at all, I play rough with mine. Why not pop over and say hi! Smile

No problem as long as he knows to stop when he's told.

You might want to warn other people, though, if they start to play rough with him!

Why don't you introduce yourself and Frankie to us (he's gorgeous by the way)? Smile

I think it's OK as long as he knows to stop when told to, but I'd make sure he knows not to do it to strangers just so he doesn't nip them when he first meets them, thinking he's playing.

Darcy & I play rough sometimes, she knows when to stop and does when she's told, I don't see any harm Smile

Yeah, like someone mentioned, always make sure that anyone else that goes in for a tummy rub or anything knows that he might think he's allowed to rough play with them, so they don't have a go at you if he gives them a nip and so long as he knows the difference between you initiating play and just petting him it should be fine.

Tiger likes a bit of a nibble too but stops when she's told, I like to think she's super duper intelligent. nerd

Thanks peeps.. As i said he stops right away when i say enough witch is great. And i will take the advise of telling guests and friends. The last thing i want is people thinking i have a vicious dog.. He has such a loving and friendly personality. But me been a (mans man) lol i like to get on the floor with him and give him plenty of rough play. so Frankie can be a (mans man). Plus it burns so much exes energy for him.. Win Win all round.. :-)

I play rough with Zeus all the time too, sometimes he'll growl, sometimes he'll bark and appear to be jumping up with his mouth open, but he'll always stop or 'calm down' when I tell him to. As far as I believe, he realises its only play and knows when to start and stop.
