white english terrier throw back

i've been told by lots of people my white sbt looks like a throw back from the white english terrier that they where originaly breed with in the 1900's, her mum and dad are both black and she had 4 black brothers and no sister, shes got a staff head and face but not as broad and slighly taller, could this b true ill send photos when i learn how.

They are all very different shapes but there there is only one type of Stafford.

One of the first whites was a much coverted hinks dog from the late 1800's who bread a few breads including a dalmation (thats where the spots on whites come from) . It was effectivley a mutt but confirmed to the standard in the day as a staff. A very sought after dog for its prowess, agility and working traits. Its made him alot of money but for whatever reason he left breading and took up a life as a publican. Bit of a rouge by all accounts ;0)

she do have spots like a dalmation too

Some can look similar i suppose, but the standard of the staff back then is not the same as now.

Google "james hinks" like hayley says the standard is very diff but can still show itself in present dogs. the hinks family were still breeding staffs into the 70's so you could well have a decendant of a hinks liniage. Personaly i love the looks of the old breeds

They are beautiful aren't they? I think the modern ones are too bulky and pronounced to me..i like the old ones better.

Yeah they are, people often forget that staffs were working dogs and only thinkabout the fighting side of the heritage. They are a very versatile dog which made them ravered amoungst the working classes and elite alike. If you look up some of hinks dogs they were most expensive of the time.

Not quite sure where you got that from, Nathan. Hinks was a dog 'dealer'. He bought & sold dogs, and also bred them himself to sell. He developed the first EBTs by various crosses, including a dalmation, but the dalmation was never used to produce a stafford, only the EBT.

He was a well respected 'dealer' amongst his peers, and yes he did own a pub, but he ran that with his dog dealing business. He actually stopped dealing/breeding because he died quite young - only in his late 40s.

It's very unlikely that a stafford will throwback to any breed from over 100 years ago; it's more likely that there's a cross in recent times!

No she not, but i see her with her parents and brothers all together when they were first born

I get the feeling that she wasn't from the same litter, or maybe the male you saw wasn't actually the father of the litter.

The white only came into existace 100 years ago so so dont see how it could have become extinct before it came about...paradox?

Can't get that to come up. Hinks was a dog dealer. He bought & sold all sorts of dogs, but was one of the main developers of the EBT.

The English White Terrier was around in the mid 1800s! It wasn't around long, only for about 50 years or so. I did read somewhere that they were trying to breed a terrier that looks similar to it, but I don't know if they ever did.

Sorry for the link. Hinks effectivley breed a mutt with practically no staff bloodline at all but pmsl it fitted the standard of the day and as you say a dealer he sold them on as white staffs which became very favourable and he sold quite a few. Im guessing crossing into to staff liniage is what gives us the white staffs of today. By all accounts he was a rouge and what we would prob class as a byb today playing about with dogs he traded with.
