I am just wondering if you guys know the prices of some vet things in your area.

1) Nail trimmings
2) Ear washing
Things like that

Also, would you guys know how to encourage a dog to bath? When they're young.

Most veterinary Nurses will clip claws, but only if it's absolutely necessary. You can also get them done at some groomers, but I'm not sure I'd trust them! Big Grin

Ear washing? Why would you want to wash a dog's ears unless they're infected? In which case a vet would be involved anyway.

Bathing should be done only rarely. The best way is to start them off just standing in a little warm water & just build things up from there.

Do you happen to know the prices? I just want everything possible done you know? xD. Is there specific grooming things that are necessary for staffys? (I know they're one of the least necessary for grooming but...all knowledge is needed)

How do you guys/girls know so much? O_o

I don't know the prices, cause I've always tended to do everything myself! Big Grin

For grooming you need a good brush for short coats, and maybe a mit with rubber on one side & soft cloth on the other. You use the rubber side to rub your dog's coat in a circular motion to loosen dead hair & then turn the mit over & slick his coat with the soft side.

That's about all you need, really.

In regards to Ear washing, like Caryll said you only need to do this if there is a problem (Daisy has bad ears) The vet will prescribe something in that case and you can buy ear wash online if needed.

Bacchus is 9 mths and I have only ever bathed him twice and both of these times it was because he had a couple of patches of a dermatitis like lesions, the treatment for which had to be rinsed off after30 mins.

As for the nails, with adequate exercise it should rarely if ever be necessary to trim them. A bit of daily pavement walking tends to keep them down.

We have Rockys nails clipped occasionally at the groomers who charge us £4 (or a pound a paw).

Loki's 11 months old and his claws have never been cut because the walking wears them down. If they do need cutting I'd go to the vet's the first time to see how they do it, but it isn't hard once you know how. You wouldn't be needing claws cutting any time soon. Ear washing, you can do that yourself, and bathing you should do as infrequently as possible. Maybe as a puppy bathe them once in normal water just so they're used to it, that's what I did with Loki, but he hasn't had a bath at all since then.
