Picked up my hire car for work tomorrow this evening, 62 plate Hyundai diesel. It had more buttons on the steering wheel than a spaceship. Dear not touch one of them incase i blow the the thing up!!!

My personal car is a focus st and u get in a drive my OH has a escort (project) and thats even more basic!!

Now is it me or are cars just getting to 'gadgety'

No Rebecca its not just you I dont see the need for all this crap its only more to go wrong! our car even tells you if a light bulb is faulty which I suppose in a way is handy but its always popping up with something. Funny though it never told me when the wheel was hanging off! Big Grin

most definitely , my 09 Mondeo has plenty of buttons on the wheel but when I get in a new hire car I get quite diustracted looking for all the gizmos, never mind new car in a few months so have to find 1 with an F1 steering wheel

I like gadgets in cars but I do also love a good example of a classic. Even my wee van has sat nav, bluetooth, parking sensors. The Audi has one of those crappy electronic handbrakes which I really hate though!

Not sure to go smaller (BMW116 or A3) or keep bigger (Passat or Insignia) at the moment it's a company car and my auto Mondeo is quite heavy on tax buty I love driving Autos now as had it 4 years almost , smaller cars little cheaper on tax but its the only car in the house so the family car as well, ooooooooo so many thoughts and decisions to make

I fronted up the boss when I got the Mondeo as standard for the engineers at the time was the Mondeo 1.8 Econet Estate and if you wanted more you had to pay yourself . So I told him I wanted the Auto Zetec 2.0 Estate and didn't want to pay anything for it as I was a senior member of the dept and he rolled over and got me it but 187 on the emissions and 40% tax I dont want to s I dont want to s £250 quid a month in tax

Will save at least £100 a month on tax when I change depending on what I go for , the new Zafira tourer looks quite an interesting proposiotion too as you can get it in Tecline spec which is the business packl with all the gizmos and about 3K cheaper than the car I have now and 130 or something on emissions

yup they are, i have a 90 plate 200sx in the guarage that ive had for 12 years. ive taken the engine out twice for a rebuild and it was simply a breeze. its been in there past 4 years as i cant afford to run it and its no good as a daily driver. 310 BHP and a padal clutch means its a nightmare in traffic :O( ive plouged so much money into it that im loathed to get rid of her but i know i will have to soon. my daily is a civic exec which is a freaking nightmare to even find the washer bottle... but the 40 mpg if you keep it at the lower on of the vvt is much more acceptable than the 14mpg of the 200...i miss driving it so much...

At a time it wasn't actually that bad. I just noticed I made a mistake ther it's 2010 not 2011 Blushing .

But I def wouldn't warrant it now and it's to rise even further.

I have the company car which is the a4 which is going away this year. The wee company van I got a week or so back. Then my wee Fiesta I bought when I passed my test and wanted to keep because it isn't costing me anything sitting here. In reality I actually own one car, but there is 3 vehicles here.

I don't understand all the terms you lot use over there for plates. We just go by year over here and then each county/area has it's own plate. I don't understand English Plates at all though. It's a leased company car so it's not just as bad as what you might think. It is getting too high though in the past year and to rise further so I'll be cutting back.

See ours just go for example Armagh is AXZ1111, then it works up AXZ1112 the whole way up until BXZ, CXZ etc. The english way seems so more confusing. Laughing

its got the same T3 turbo as the cossie and 444cc injectors, high lift intake cam, straight through 3 1/2 exhaust as before cats needed for mot. runs 1.5 bar and we had to dial it back on the rolling road as we couldnt get enough fuel in. also bigger front mount intercooler and methonal alchohol/water injection to keep the charge temps down. its a beast. i ground in each valve personally and changed all the collates (pain in the butt) racelogic traction control and blitz turbo timer. my fave bit is the streering wheel mounted turbo control...your making me feel like getting her out the gaurage now lol except she has very bald rear tyres....no idea how that happend Wink many more bits and bobs like the greddy pistons, shot peened crank shaft.. its endless for gods sake i even mapped the chip myself its a killer not to drive her Sad

I, like a lot of women, hate all the extra buttons we have to use these days on our gadgets, whatever they are.

However, regarding cars, I DO appreciate in modern cars:-

Automatic choke
ABS
Lights that light up when anything is wrong, especially not-shut doors
Central locking
5th gear

Meh, I'd rather an RS200 if it had to be a ford.

I prefer the old Vauxhalls, my current daily is an '89 cavalier SRi. 35mpg, more than keeps up with traffic, reasonably comfortable, reliable as British rain, and buttons to buy/insure/run. Recycle the past, invest in the future Smile

What matt its a 10 plate? Still cost abit tho at that age!

its got the same T3 turbo as the cossie and 444cc injectors, high lift intake cam, straight through 3 1/2 exhaust as before cats needed for mot. runs 1.5 bar and we had to dial it back on the rolling road as we couldnt get enough fuel in. also bigger front mount intercooler and methonal alchohol/water injection to keep the charge temps down. its a beast. i ground in each valve personally and changed all the collates (pain in the butt) racelogic traction control and blitz turbo timer. my fave bit is the streering wheel mounted turbo control...your making me feel like getting her out the gaurage now lol except she has very bald rear tyres....no idea how that happend Wink many more bits and bobs like the greddy pistons, shot peened crank shaft.. its endless for gods sake i even mapped the chip myself its a killer not to drive her Sad

Just had to read to OH to explain fully haha am getting there tho with car talk!!

He says u must a put loads into it!
I want mine chipped soon and having new exhaust built. My OH doing his but needs welding and re spray first. That did 240 on rolling road he wants least 300 bhp from the escort in time!
