Large cardboard boxes as toys Empty Large cardboard boxes as toys

Post by Keith Thu Oct 25 2012, 21:16

Anyone else give a large cardboard box as a "toy"?

Half of my fosters go mad for them - and atomize them in the back garden.

The other half just hop in.

Soda, one of my fosters, hopped in, then destroyed from within - I was an hour picking up what it took him a minute to do. Laughing

Anyone else got any daft but handy ideas for entertaining our staffies?

Dempsey goes mad for cardboard boxes as well! I must get a vid of it sometime!

He also like the inside roll of paper kitchen towels!

And here is another idea for a toy :-

sometimes (not often because he gets bored - I think our dog has a short attention span!) we give Kuchar an empty 2 litre size lemonade bottle, half squashed and with the lid on. It makes a lovely noise when he chomps on it and it can be chased around the room for oooh half an hour. then we have find something else.

Yep mine love chomping on the cardboard tubes from tin foil , they ate pretty tough cardboard , usually let them go mental for 20 mins then pic up the pieces !

Bottles are good too but noisy lol x

Yup, Bis too! Usually put loads inside each other with treats between each one and she goes off on one destroying them all into tiny little pieces which take FOREVER to pick up! Plastic bottles are another favourite! They're the only things she will destroy in the house! Can leave anything else on the floor and it'll remain intact thank god!!

Ours try to grab them whenever possible. If they can, they sneak into the pantry and pull recycling out and "bam!" millions of tiny pieces everywhere. Piggy even eats it...

The boys always get ours, i don't bother half squashing otherwise the bottle is in half in seconds!

Haven't given Loki a cardboard box yet, but there was one in the car that he enjoyed destroying. On Christmases, we used to give my old Boxer the empty boxes and he'd spend ages ripping them apart Laughing. Loki does love messing with plastic bottles though, especially if they have treats in Big Grin

My friend has a cat who prefers playing with newspaper to her toys; I think they just enjoy watching us spend money on them and then showing us they like the cheap stuff Laughing

Diesel loves good loo roll tube, she was very quick in learning how to nose open the wee toilet pedal bin and digging them out! Then trotting into my room, onto my bed and demolishing it!
She also enjoys getting the lids of plastic bottles - under supervision of course but she always spits them out then chomps away at the bottle!

Tried the treats in an secured egg carton (idea from here) last week too, she loved that! Big Grin

Percy loves any boxes, and has the best time ripping them into a million pieces Smile and then sits back and admires the chaos he's created in the flat whilst watching me pick it all up rolling on the floor

Keeps him out of trouble for 5 mins though x

Haven't tried boxes but there are a few in the cellar just sitting there so if I'm prepared for a lovely mess I might give that a go. We have a favourite game at the mo, getting under a blanket and saying "oh no a monster" in a high pitched voice and Dex has to "get us" he goes crazy with joy it's hilarious, plus I have an excuse to act like a crazy person for a bit Laughing

any cardboard--boxes, paper towel rolls, etc--that comes into our house has Cal's name on it. Think of it as helping recycle.

Oh boxes, pizza boxes, pop bottles, empty kitchen and toilet rolls, I only have to leave a empty box on the floor and its in pieces Laughing We line up empty pop bottles on the kitchen table, and she will whine for one. Once my hubby and son came downstairs to the sitting room (not lounge) Pixee had found 3 empty boxes, the floors were covered to say the least and a lovely staffie smile, took me ages to clean up!

Ohhhh yes Rocky loves to play with a cardboard box. We put a small treat in the bottom of it, thinking he will go inside the top of the box to find said treat. No, Rocky goes straight into the bottom of the box, the direct approach. Laughing
