Getting over confident Empty Getting over confident

Post by julespercules Sat Oct 13 2012, 21:48

Hi all my tash is now 17 weeks old and has gone from a very obedient 99% recall to 90% recall but ignores me if she sees something more interesting like a dog in the distance. This is all from me giving her play time with other dogs off the lead which she now wants to do all the time, regardless of whether the other dog does or not.

Any advice, i dont want to keep putting her on the lead the minute i see someone else but she's stopped sitting and waiting for my command to go say hello

Quite possibly time to wheel out the "watch me" command, aided by a 10 metre training line.

Agree with Working Dog. I put Loki on the lead when people or dogs are near us, but when we're walking past them on the lead I make him watch me because...well, because it's easier than trying to drag an exciteable puppy away Laughing could come in useful; her attention should naturally focus on you more that way.

We use the long line all the time unless the area we are in is closed off

Yes, use a long line.

All that's happening here is that she's getting older & so more sure of herself. That's normal, natural & desirable! Now it's up to you to teach her that even though what she wants to do is normal & natural, as far as you're concerned it isn't desirable! Big Grin

I agree with Caryll Smile its nice when they become more sure of themselves but also time for you to be firm Xx

Yep long line it well need to be, Rocky is still using one whenever we got to our local park, so many dogs over there that just run about loose and apparently not with anyone in particular. We do have a place where we can let Rocky run free but only in this one place.
