Personally I wouldn't put a deposit on a dog that hadn't been born , I would assume that your nme on the list would be enough . Denise is our reputable breeder on the forum and also a mod , she will hopefully guide you. For me I was applying for a dog from a litter that had already come so can't compare but the others I looked at was just a name on the list.
Most important is the health of the dogs and the temperament of the dam and sire, where have you looked already and been asked for a deposit ?? Have you tried the local breed clubs for guidance

Hi and welcome.

We did put down a deposit for Callie when her mom was pregnant, with the understanding that if things didn't work out (we wanted a female) we could apply it to a future litter or ask for a refund. Don't know if that's standard or not.

Hi and welcome to the forum Big Grin

Its not common practice to place a deposit for a pup thats not even born yet.
Adding your name to their waiting list is thou.

If you look on Champdogs your bound to find a reputable breeder in your area on there.

Make sure you only inquire on litters due or planned from health tested parents plus are KC reg Smile

Any more question just ask.

Thank you everyone, we have found a pup from a breeder in staffordshire. our puppy will be ready on the 3rd october can't wait to go pick her up! we looked into everything and both parents are pedigree kc reg and all health checked, some of the dogs have also won prizes in shows etc. we would maybe like to show our pup in the future so the breeder has told me she will check her over to make sure she meets show standard, can't wait to get her home now!! welcome to the forum, im a breeder here in d south-west and i dont believe in ppl leaving a deposit for a pup as anything could happen, although i do my utmost best to ensure notin happens,i jus cant garauntee 100% it miten, so i tend to work a list basis here, and a first come first serve after 7 weeks...
i tink d deposit side of things is jus to ensure you actually come back for a pup cos iv found it myself that wen there in d womb or jus small and a few weeks old iv a list as long as me arm of ppl wantin pups from my dogs, but when it comes to the 7 weeks and i have em all weened, wormed and injected that list suddenly gets smaller as ppl have either forgotten or somethin has come up preventing them from been able to take a pup to enjoy nd put enough time into em....
but hey delighted to hear you found yourself a pup and i wish u and ur new addition all d best wit ur adventures ul have together Big Grin

( im typin this listenin to 11 amstaffs only 3 weeks old suckilin mad off there mother (Smokey & Kaiber are the parents) in my sittin room, she had 11 and so far so good has kept d 11 Smile )

there all vet checked regularly, but to be honest i rely on experience and knowledge i tink i have, this is my fourth litter and iv only lost 1 pup out of 35 pups from d 4 litters so i tink i aint doin things too badly, the 1 i lost was d runt of a litter of 12 last year, jus unfortunate she wasn strong enough from birth.....the 11 i have now turned 3 weeks old as of tuesday jus gone and although der stil under der mother (obviously) they are also helpin themselves to a daily drink of lambs milk from d bowl, they are all up and running around, barking, growling and mess fighting, being pups in general and each and every one of them is in perfect health...
