Cruciate ligaments Empty Cruciate ligaments

Post by lovemystaffies Wed Mar 21 2012, 12:58

I am only speaking from experience and hoping to avoid other Staffords having to undergo surgery and the very long recovery from damaged cruciate ligaments. So I hope I wont be seen as a killjoy. But.... looking at the wonderful pics for this month's competition, I notice that there are two beautiful dogs standing on back legs. One of our adopted Staffords has had to have both of his cruciates repaired and we know that the previous owner used to encourage this practice, even getting him to jump up for treats. Our vet tells us that this should never be encouraged and will weaken the ligaments for sure. Please take this as a health warning and nothing else, sometimes it's hard to write what seems like a criticism but it's done with the best intentions.

Any high impact activity including jumping should be avoided until they are at least 18 months. A very good post
