kenny used to be so good, but he's hit an age where my voice does'nt even register. I had a 30 foot nylon training lead and keep him on that when walking on beach/mountain. I cant risk it. At the beach this weekend i had to give an educational talk to a strange woman who thinks all bull breeds are killers. She was very rude, kenny was on his lead and her dog was off, came running over to kenny, owner fast on his heel, screaming. I tryed to explain about staffys but no, she didnt want to know. Yes, i know that some staffys dont like other dogs, but isnt that true of other breeds too.

I have the opposite problem, Skye doesn't like the lead and wont walk with it on unless we are on the way home, she comes when called, doesn't run off, but i always train without lead first and socialise with other dogs at a very early age . I suggest long training lead.

hi and welcome..
yes a long lead might be the answer for now and lots of training in recall...it is only natural that dogs run up to other dogs as they are normally such social creatures, but as you noticed, not everyone likes strange dogs running up to them and their dogs !

Sorry Kayne I completely ignored your original question please forgive me.

Try keeping your dog on a lead when approaching other dogs and ask their owners if OK to say hello to each other. This should hopefully avoid any unpleasant reactions.

Also have a read through the link below, a similar issue:
