Hi, we need some help. kaiser gets very excited whenever anyone walks into the house and doesnt settle down till they leave or we have to put him outside to chill out. is there anyway we can settle him down so we can all enjoy a visit from whoever?

Have you tried popping him on lead when the visitors arive so that he can't jump and reward good behaviour with treats, build this up over time and he should catch on that calm = treats. Also when visitors do come round don't allow them to have Kaiser jump all over them, everyone is going to have to be firm and consistant with the training, a bit of patience and he'll catch on Smile

You will have to expailn to the guests that they are to ignore your dog if he is over excited. You could also try taking him for a walk beforehand so he is tired out.

The easiest way is to totally ignore him if he's over excited (not easy, I know). Don't even look at him. Keep turning away until he's calmer & then give him some quiet praise. You'll have to get all your vistors to do the same thing, or he won't learn.

we have just been through all this in training. when anyone nocks on the door we need to teach the dogs to SHUSH when they start barking(which unfortunately means teaching them to SPEAK at the same time till they get it ) . Then ask them to move BACK away from the door this could be BACK or GO TO BED with a STAY command untill you tell them to come out. if they come out before you say then put them back. if they jump up at people they must be told OFF and SIT and only when they SIT do they get any attention other wise it is ignore untill the desired behaviour si reached. all this will take time but one day we might be able to let someone in the door without getting accosted by some over excited staffy jumping all over them Big Grin
