Anti virus? Empty Anti virus?

Post by janey Thu Oct 13 2011, 22:14

Question for anyone that knows.

Got my laptop with 1 months free anti virus with 'McAfee', due to expire. Should I pay £34.99 to keep it for a year or should I download a free one like 'Avast'.

Whats better, don't mind paying just wondered.

Thanks Smile

I don't think the free ones have as much cover as the full ones. I use ESET but I can't remember off hand how much it is per year.

Mind you, on top of that I also have the free editions of Superantispyware & Malwarebytes.

we use AVG and it is free, we always used to get viruses cause the boys play on line games, so far touch wood ...................

you get the basic free, which is what we have, then if you like you can upgrade

Good luck

I know alot of people who use free ones but i prefer to buy one if you got a bad virus and you cant get it off your pc/laptop you can get them to to remove it i dont think you get that with free ones

That's why I got ESET. The others are just a belt &braces type thing - they pick up little bits here & there like tracking cookies etc.

I always buy my anti-virus software. Covers you for sooooo much more, and with technology these days I'd personally rather be safe than sorry.

I use Trend Micro

Hi all, Well i own my own IT company, id say AVG is by farr the best for free, or if you don't mind the £30 lifetime purchase go with that, i can honestly say 80%/90% of clients that call me saying My computer is slow or has issues its due to McAfee, Norton or Kaparky. If you need a hand installation any of them give me a PM or something, id be happy to help for free, we even have remote support should you need to.

Lol it has bad press, this is normally down to the user installing all the extra stuff that comes with it OR users installing it along side there old one and complely messing up there machines.. ive installed it on around 700 machines in the last 10 years and had only 2 machines that didnt like it.

I think its pretty sweet for a free-bee

most thing have malware these free virus or firewalls always pick up false positive i would rather pay for something that get good updated then a update no one really care about becasue they not making nor money from.

i would never recommend free virus / firewalls becasue i seen what hackers can do.

I use norton too. No slowdowns here. I do have a work horse of a pc though. Perhaps if affects it but not enough to be perceived. Didn't slow any benchmarks for me.

I also got McFee on my notebook and opted to go the paid route when the trial ended. Personally I am a loyal Symantec (Norton) user and have this on my desktop pc.

Windows security is not enough.
