In order for a canid (wild or domesticated) to survive on its own it must have all five of the following insincts, plus of course a prey-rich area to live!
1. Stalk
2. Chase
3. Catch
4. Kill
5. Eat
Most dogs will have at least 2 of these instincts, some 3 or even 4, but very few have all 5. Some of the terrier breeds such as Border Terriers are known to have all 5, but our breeds, I'm afraid (or glad!) very rarely do!

I'm a member (in a small way, only post about 2 or 3 times a month) of a border terrier forum & they're always going on about how their dogs have caught & eaten this or that & what a pain it is!
