At what age ?
Hi all, at what age will Sasha be calm enough to let her off the lead outside ? If I do it now she just takes off like a little bullet, she will do laps of the green in front of my house and keep looking back at me waiting for me to play chasing. If she sees people she will run over for a rub but she will get hurt running out on the road.

Re: At what age ?
IMO not until her recall is near perfect, and she will stop as soon as you say the word.
Not only roads worry me but if she bounces up at people especially youngsters she is able to do damage. Also other dogs, some are walked on lead for a reason, so don't need a bouncy pup in there face!
She'll get there but until you can trust her I wouldn't. Saying that you will have to trust her ay some point, if you wish. Try a flexi lead, practice recall alot and see how she goes

Agree with Janey and the first few times should be in a yard or some other enclosed space to be sure. I always keep Suki on lead anytime we are near a road just to be safe.

Im in no rush, Ill try the flexi lead and work on the recall. She completely ignores me when I call her at the moment.

Really, really cute!
Can't add too much more, to be honest. Just, when you're practicing the recall, you need to make yourself as interesting as possible - which basically means getting down on your knees with your arms stretched out and making silly voices! Everyone will think you're mad as a hatter, but your pup'll think you're being fun & will want to come to you.
Oh, and never tell your dog off when he comes to you, even if you've been chasing around the park after him for 3 hours! If you tell him off, he'll think you're telling him off for coming to you (he won't associate the chasing round the park with the recall or the telling off) and he'll be more reluctant to come in future.
