playtime all the time help!!
hi all i recently added a new addition to my family, i have a 6 month old staffy mix daija...and our newbie a full breed staffy roxi (both girls!) anyway we have had roxi for 10 days now and had hoped the "playfighting" would settle down a bit,how wrong could i be!! if anything its probably gotten slightly worse! things ive tried-distraction (apparently daijas favourite toy isnt as exciting as roxi!) -telling them no! at which point daija completely blanks me! seperating them obviously works but the minute they are back together it starts up again! as im typing they are at it again having both just woke up...im at a loss as to what try next any help much appreciated thanks!
oh and and daija seems to be going backwards in behaviour/training she was crated so no pooping in her own bed which worked great! but since roxi arrived its like shes deliberately messing indoors on a daily basis shes also become more defiant and often barks at me when i tell her off im wondering if this is an attention thing or should i be concerned?? (shes barked at me a lot since we got her so not a roxi issue)

Re: playtime all the time help!!
You have 2 young dogs so their teaching each other bad habits where as an older dog would teach better behaviour to the younger dog.
Try putting them on a lead in the house so there in the same room but cant play same time every night to teach quiet time, when mine was a pup i used to do it and let him lay on the bed whilst i held his lead then eventually let go of the lead, then after a while you don't need the lead at all

hi steve!! the only thing is i dont want to stop them "doing what puppys do" of course i want them to play just not 24/7 they literally do it everytime they are near even if they are separated by a stairgate

I agree. They are just puppies and will normally want to play. Assuming you got the younger one at 8 weeks they are still getting used to each other as well. Patience and consistency from everyone in the house will pay off.

i got roxi at 7 weeks couldnt stay with mum any longer, from what i was told she was getting aggresive towards the pups, not ideal but she settled in nicely and have no problems when they are seperate..we give them lots of attention both together and seperately and believe me im being as consistent daija will walk away if i get up and walk towards her but if i just say a firm no she plays deaf...il try all of the above and see how i get on

Did you delete the pics from photobucket? If you delete them, they get deleted wherever you've posted them!

Hmmm, hard to say. The only thing that comes to mind is a Jack Russel? Or maybe even a fox terrier?

Re: playtime all the time help!!
it's hard to tell really at that age around 18months you will get a better idea
Re: playtime all the time help!!
to be honest the reason we believe shes a mix is her ears they are huge and hang at either side of her face..nothing like your staffy in the pic steve, we did see her mum when we got her she was a full bred short leg staffy beautiful the only thing this was the dad was awol lol guy just told us "hes a beast" and we took his word not so sure after getting roxi we can see the differance in her and daijas baby pics they look nothing like each other which leads us to believe daija is not full bred (roxi is 100% full staffy our friends have both parents!) shes been called everything from dalmation to collie..it doesnt matter to us cos we love her either way but would be nice to no for sure

Re: playtime all the time help!!
thats daija in the above baby pics looks nothing like roxi which deffinately confirms in my mind that daija isnt full "staffy" as we know roxi is! (our friends own both parents)
