My partner, Sara, and I adopted a typically sweet 3 year old named Wyatt from a rescue organization about a year ago. He has some aggression towards other dogs and also the woman who placed him in to our home. The other day when Sara saw her on the street...he went crazy. She tried to crouch down to hold him back, and he turned around and bit her in the face/cheek.
Just so happens, day before that, he did the same to me for the first time when he was not greeting a friendly/non-threatening dog so nicely.
So two, sad, bandaged owners.

He has never done this before. I took him to the vet...thinking it was an ear infection...but he was clear.

We are still being loving, but pretty strict at home. No couch, no jumping up to greet us on the bed.

So my question, can this behavior be fixed? Anyone with the same experience? Soon we are adding kids...

The behaviour can certainly be corrected with patience and consitency. If you know he doesn't get along with a certain person or dog you can try your best to avoid them. You could also use a haltie to give you more control during walks. When first meeting people have him sit and wait patiently before allowing him to interact and I'm sure others will also have advice.

Hi & welcome.

What a shock for you both, I'm sure!

Yes, I would imagine that it can be corrected with patience & consistency. As jstaff says, you need to teach your dog to remain calm when meeting people & dogs. Whenever you see dogs approaching, put your dog into a sit, say "Watch" or something similar and hold a treat up by your face. If he stays calm then when the dogs have gone past, praise & treat. Practice the "Watch" at home so that he will know what you mean.

With people do exactly the same.

If he really dislikes this other woman, I'd avoid her at all costs to be honest, because if he ever does make contact with her you could be in serious trouble. Eventually he should forget whatever made him hate her so much (I dread to think!), but in the meantime, and until you can at least get him to stay calm around other people, I'd avoid her even if it means crossing the road or turning around & walking the other way.

Obviously, until you can get him to respond to "watch" and remain calm, keep your hands & face away from his teeth!
