Not long till fireworks
For those of us based in the UK, remember remember, 5th November is just round the corner. Now is the ideal time to prepare your dogs for bonfire night.
Especially those with dogs who have not yet experienced fireworks, either pups or adults, don't assume they will be ok or that you'll just have to cope with it if they're not. Have a look at our info sheet on firework training, there are various ideas on training and helping dogs with an existing phobia

Well done Hank (and well done you!).
Isn't it a weight off your mind, not to have to worry? We've just been in the garden and the dogs were much more interested in finding things to chase than in the fireworks.
How's everyone else doing?

A huge weight! I’ve been telling people what I’ve been doing and they have been calling me crazy and weird and saying how will that work.. well it has!
I’ve just been on the phone to my Mam while we were out saying how lovely it was and she was shocked I’d taken him out and I said well if I think he’s going to be scared and stress about it he will pick up on that and he will be scared, she still doesn’t understand but she has cats
Glad we will be able to enjoy them now and not miss out each year like so many families do so sad seeing all the unhappy dogs this time of year.

Well done to you both.
Here un/luckily it isn’t an issue for us and even when there are fireworks (New years and the such), it’s never here as I live in a rural village with a population of about 400 ...
Nifty got to meet leaf blower/shredder today and all went well. That’s our contribution

Re: Not long till fireworks
I do feel for people with nervous dogs at this time of the year
Fortunately with Flo not being able to hear she sits and watches (when she can be bothered). She has in the past run down the garden to bark at them and last weekend we were in Beaulieu with her Bloodhound cousins and she sat and watched the huge display there, though it was from the safety of indoors.

Re: Not long till fireworks
Well - our local major firework display is about to kick off in about 30 mins and the local kids have started early. I gave Leah a couple of Naturacalm about 2 hrs ago and they are having little effect.
I've got the TV and radio blasting to try and muffle the noise but the poor wee soul is hyper ventilating already. Going to be a long night....

Yep - trying to distract her with play and treats. Luckily my next door neighbour is hard of hearing lol!

We have just been watching a neighbours display from the window with Katy, the big display at Battle will be firing up soon! So lucky that Katy doesn't mind them

Re: Not long till fireworks
Chases first firework night and ....
Bang, flash, boom, whiz, crackle ... Snore!
Chase has slept through them so far!
For being out in the sticks I've never heard so many fireworks and ones so loud!
The in-laws took my two oldest out to a display in the next village and being a responsible staffy mum I stayed at home, put my youngest to bed and stayed with Chase thinking he'd be worried ... But I was wrong!
He's still happily curled up in his crate snoring his head off bless him, the only sign of movement was a slight ear twitch with the big boomers but that's been it!
It's all gone quiet here now for a bit, I'm a happy staffy mum :-)
Ian - I'm forty minutes from Beaulieu now, love that place!

Re: Not long till fireworks
Gus has been flat out since 6:30pm. He had an extra five minutes with his boomer ball so that’s done the trick. He doesn’t seem that bothered with loud noises to be fair.

Will have to keep an eye out for you when down that way next
So pleased that most of you are getting thru this evening without too much trouble. Flo is fast asleep... well almost, she has one eye on my cushions should I move

Hank has been melting my heart tonight, we have been sat watching them out the window and his little tail was wagging.. nearly shed a tear at how sweet it was
