I had to be rushed to hospital today after having a panic attack and knocking myself out.

The neighbours said Chase was howling down the house despite being left his Kong which he didn't touch the whole time we were out the house.

Would this be frustration from not being able to exercise properly or maybe pain? He never used to do that before the operation ... Poor thing!

A very worried dog (or other animal) won't be interested in food. Self preservation always comes before eating. You wouldn't munch on a packet of crisps while your car careers towards a cliff edge, would you?

My guess is that he's feeling he's world's a bit upside down at the moment - he's just had the unusual experience of a weekend in a strange place with strange people, then the vets, then feeling sore, the cone. I would expect him to settle down quickly.

What I would be careful of, though, is that this hasn't started some separation anxiety. If he has one unpleasant experience when you're not there, he could well expect another next time he's left. After all, he's not to know it won't be the same. I'd have a read through the info sheet on separation anxiety (follow the links from the Training and Behaviour section) and quickly work through the main steps with him, just to reassure him and also yourself.

Hope you're feeling ok now!

Thank you, I'll go have a read when I'm not so dizzy.

Hoping he will settle back down when he gets his usual walks again.

I'm okay. Just waiting to see if I have cancer or not. Get the results tomorrow.
I worried myself into a panic ... Oops!

Thank you!

It's a massive relief! Means we can now concentrate on the future and take more time to enjoy life and slow down a bit.

Chase hasn't howled the house down the last two days.
I walked round the village for a couple of hours yesterday and kept going past the house to see if I could hear him ... But heard nothing!

We've gone out for a bit longer today.
He was happily chewing on a stuffed bone when we left ... Then Had to go back ten minutes later cos we forgot something and he was still chewing away bless him.

Hope the neighbours don't report us :-(

Sounds like your tactics are working and he's settling down in to the routine. If it's any consolation I didn't know my Flo howled when we first left her home alone until months later when my neighbour mentioned that she did it less and less and she was 6 years old !

Nowadays she's exactly where we left her or she snuffled the parrots covers for herself and made a nice bed on the sofa Rolling Eyes
