We have finally decided it's time for Gus to be castrated. Our big worry is how to keep him calm and still while he heals. What do you suggest?

Lots of brain games, mental simulation can be very tiring for dogs. Try freezing some Kong's too. The time will go quickly I'm sure.

And remember brain games can include training. You can teach him party tricks if everything else is already perfect.

Everything went well yesterday but we got no sleep last night as Gus was very unsettled and whined constantly. We read that this was normal after anaesthetic. He ate all his food last night but didn't drink any water. We were worried as he still hadn't had any water all day today but has just started drinking now. He absolutely detests the cone so we have ordered another one for him. All walks are on the lead for 10 days.

He will be right as rain before you know it James. The drinking isn't such an issue if you feed wet food, obviously with dry this could be a problem. Anaesthetic affects each dog differently and often different times oddly enough but it's never a nice thing seeing them wondering what the he is going on.

My girl can get a cone off in one quick move but I've seen foam rings that do exactly the same job but look a lot more comfy.

Glad all went well Big Grin
