Sensitive stomach

Hi all, just wanted to put something out there and hope to get some useful advice back on how to deal with it. So doug is 4 months old now and since we first got him he's always seemed to have a sensitive stomach, deviate slightly from his normal food and he gets the runs, I first noticed when he was about 11/12 weeks old and I gave him a chicken wing..we ended up in the vet because he started passing blood and diarrhoea. I gave him a beef bone 3 weeks ago and he seemed fine, then started giving him sardines to help with his skin and coat. The sardines were in moderation, the first tin he was fine and loved them but the next tin I gave him a few days later went straight through him so we put him on chicken and rice and I made the call to change his food when we brought him back onto dry food to a more healthier option. Anyways he's taken to his new food with no problems so yesterday I thought he deserved a beef bone which he devoured and had a good chew on. Then last night and this morning he had really bad diarrhoea again. I'm stumped with this since he can have something once and be fine but another time his stomach can't handle it. I know the obvious thing to do is stick to his normal food but I did want to mix it up with different treats, the bones are from a butcher and fresh, the chicken wings we bought and gave him one that day and the sardines are tinned in fresh water. Every time I give him this it's in between his normal meals so they're not a substitute and are mixed in with his normal food. Am I doing something wrong here? Any advice will be welcome

Unless you're feeding a raw diet I wouldn't give raw meat or bones until he's a few months older.

many dogs seem to have sensitive tummies & giving different foods can really upset them, especially pups.

if he's okay with his regular food, I'd stick with it. For treats, maybe use raw veg - carrots, cabbage etc.

No he's on a dry food diet, we have started using cooked chicken as his regular everyday treats but I'll take that on board. It makes sense now that you said it because he has reacted badly to the raw chicken wing and now the raw bone. I would love to give him something big that he can chew on especially since he's just started teething, would you have any ideas? I'm trying to keep his diet as healthy as reasonably possible so I don't want to feed him those processed bones you see in pet shops

Mine eats kibble and I don't feed her any fresh meat but since she came home, I have been giving her a few probiotic treats throughout the day and I find it has prevented the big runs.
I give the Feelgoods probiotic treats.
Carrots from the fridge are appreciated for her teething.

For teething, try freezing carrots or soak a tea towel, twist or knot it & freeze it - very soothing!

For treats doug just gets steamed chicken, we used to give him those packet treats but it actually works out cheaper and you know exactly what your giving him! I tried a pigs ear the other day and he's got the runs again so I think I'll just stay clear of anything outside his usual diet for the time being. I like the carrot idea though, I think I'll try that tomorrow, thanks for the ideas

When you say he's on a dry food diet, what kibble are you feeding ?
That may be a big part of your problem.

Really? So originally he was on hills science puppy food which we stuck to for a while. Then a couple of weeks ago he had a really bad upset stomach and was getting up 4-5 times a night so we put him on a bland chicken and rice diet for a week, then over the following week we started wieining him onto meals for mutts puppy food, the turkey and sweet potato holistic puppy food. He took to it really well and his stomach was fine until he got a bone and it went straight through him. This was when I posted here

All good advice above cant add anything apart from maybe give 3 smaller meals may just be a case of little and often rather than too much in one go sorry if this has been covered

Thanks Inez Maria, yep already have him on a morning, lunch and dinner routine for feeding. He was pretty lethargic the last couple of days due to his upset stomach but seems to be good now. Tried a frozen carrot yesterday and after a bit of encouragement he devoured it so we'll be sticking to his dry food, chicken breast treats and the occasional carrot
