Newbie here asking advice

Hi everyone I have a 2.5 year old male and love him to bits. Currently he is not neutered but have booked him in on Tuesday to be done and all I keep thinking in my head is am I doing the right thing. He came from a bad background and was abused so he is still quite nervous ( not at home as much but still very scared or many things like loud noises loud voices etc. My reason for wanting to get him done is if I take him to the park he will jump on top of any girl dog he sees and also is leaving small white marks on his bedding and even when his just sitting there he has a pea size amount on the end of him. I don't this procedure to set him back and think we are mistreating him ( I no you are all thinking I'm reading too much into it lol )

Neutering affects every dog differently i only have had a female staffy not the best person to ask. Neutering is a good idea of you don't want unexpected puppies

I agree, neutering is the responsible thing to do and in a case like this especially I would also suggest it's the fair thing to do. At the moment you have a lad who is dying to get to the girls but is being held back, unable to fulfil his natural instinct.

And as for what he'll think of it all, really he won't know. Yes, he'll know he feels funny after the anesthetic and he might feel a bit sore, but he'll have no idea why and he absolutely won't think you've done anything wrong.

I'm sure you'll be fine and after Tuesday you'll be able to relax about it more.

I agree with both replies above. He is clearly a little frustrated and you could also do without the embarrassment and mess so it's a no brainier to me. He really won't know what's happened so don't worry about getting any sorrowful looks other than those when he's wanting a cuddle straight after the surgery.

I think it's well worth it just so he doesn't feel frustrated. I left my jack Russell till 15 months so he could mature first. He remained the fun loving guy he is but got more freedom, off lead etc on walks with no urge to find girls. I'm hoping to leave my staffy puppy till around 2 so growth plates close etc. However I realise I may need to consider it earlier with having 2 boys. I promise your boy won't think your mistreating him. I trust my vet 100% and I sure your vet is the same. He will be asleep & it's a quick recovery

I completely agree with everyone above. Neutering is fairer to him as he won't get any urges. I'm sure after the op, like me you won't believe you worried so much.

Although after the op is when the hard work begins.... Keeping a staffy quiet for two weeks!!! ( well it was two weeks for a female, nor sure about a male). Good luck with that

ckgoddard191 sure the advised on lead walks after surgery also no jumping on beds etc as they may burst stitches initally after the stitches are taken out its fine. Any bleeding etc in this time take your dog straight to the vet
