From guest to new user - hello !

Hello !
There are too many guests here but it seems like a friendly place so time to sign in.

I have a confession to make - my staffy will be arriving in a couple week's time when she leaves her mum.
My first experience of a canine friend (have cats and horses), love at first sight. Excited but stressed out too, what have I done ?!

So the need of information and support brings me here, hope I won't bore you with complete beginner's questions - my apologies in advance.

See, first beginner's mistake. I thought I'd be the one owning the staffy
I'm currently trying to work out how best to accommodate her arrival (obviously routine here will change) but with best compromise for her and us.
Have no experience with dogs, even less with staffies (not to mention puppies !) so hope it runs as smooth as possible. Found a really really great breeder who really assures the best start for all of her puppies, I need to continue the good work.

I cant offer you any advice as we have yet to find our staffy but I just wanted to say a big welcome

People on this forum have been brilliant in helping me and they have been very patient especially as, until very recently, a staffy was not a breed I considered due to having totally the wrong idea about them Instead of having a go people have consistently offered support, help and advice which has really boosted my confidence and has made me feel I can always come here for help with my questions (and hopefully be able to help others one day!)

Well for the first week or two you'll need to let her settle in after leaving mum and littermates, it doesn't take them long to adjust. Next you'll want to get into a routine for feeding and toilet habits and then start with the exploring of new things especially if you have cats and horses.

I'm sure there will be loads of questions along the way and we are all here to help answer, and remember, the only daft question is the one you wish you'd asked but didn't

Well I must admit that I had always dreamt of a rottweiler but the reality is that it's really not a newbie's dog, especially as they are categorized over here (vet behaviour assessment, town hall declaration, special insurance, muzzle in public, not allowed in most canine clubs ...)
Research often took me back to staffies and I fell in love with a pup found via website.
Ok, so my story does sound dodgy, I freely admit, but I believe alot of things happen for a reason and this feels good ... scary as hell but good nevertheless

She's already been added to the vet's visit for the horses' and cats' vaccinations (will have her "pre vaccinations" before leaving breeder).
Already   at vet assistant who promptly told me that a staffordshire bull terrier is a categorized dog. Forst she thought it was a stafford crossed with bull terrier and then understood that I was talking about a staffy. I didn't quite measure the prejudice of this breed ...

The key is good Socialisation and training, get those going good and the rest is easy. You may find a few that mistrust Staffies but all that have had this view and then met my Flo have changed their opinions.

Don't be too hard on the vet assistant - I think in France the American Staffordshire Terrier is the one that's banned ( ) and a lot of people don't know the difference. But do brace yourself for frowns, it's part of our lot.

Yep, There definitely is confusion between Staffies, Am Staffs and Pitbulls ... not to mention anything that does not have breed paperwork is considered as pitbull directly and category 1

Only if it looks like an AmStaff. We take Chaos (a staffie x ?) with us to France and I'm quite happy that he looks sufficiently unlike an AmStaff. This is what I rely on!

Welcome to the forum. Congratulations on your new puppy. My pup is 14 weeks now, I've had dogs all my life but am a first time Staffy Mum. I'm honestly enjoying every minute. Please ask any questions & enjoy the puppy days

Me nervous ? Nah ... Just complete panic stations
Just had the breeder on the phone and she's confirmed what I think of little'un - she's not shy nor the boldest so middle range, just right for a beginner like me.

How exciting. I do think the character of puppy shows you how they will be as an adult. My Rebel was in the middle too & he's a really good little puppy. So loving & sweet with the odd crazy turn haha

All of the books say that you should choose the middle of the range pup. Easier said than done, especially when they're really young or when you can't handle them to choose.
Phew, one less worry !

It's natural to worry as we want the best possible start for our puppy. You have a lot of fun times to come, I'm enjoying every minute of Rebel's puppy days
