I have never been on a forum before so be patient with me,

I currently have a 17 month old staffy called Dexter. Unfortunately due to a relationship breakdown I am facing the possibility of having to re home him unless i can get him to accept im his new owner. any help would be greatly appreciated. Sad

Firm and fair like a child, lead walks, feed him make him wait. Show him good thing happen when your around like treats ball games etc but only if he behaves. You have to show him you're in charge not him.

I'm new here too, and have had other dogs, but my first Staff. Boxer last time.

You'll get there just takes time effort and patience Smile

Hi ya, welcome to the forum from Flo & me Big Grin

Be consistent and reward the behaviour you want, reprimand rarely works as they don't think like us and don't understand why you're mad at him because he chewed that fave pair of shoes Rolling Eyes

As has been said before here, set him up to succede and reward reward reward. It may take time but you will get there

Hi from me & Katy, Dexter will soon adapt to the changes. They are very people orientated dogs, just get him to realise you are the best thing ever & he will settle happily with you. Make sure you both have a stable settled routine & he will adapt

Hi from me and mine Smile

Staffies are so sensitive, they do feel these changes. But, like all dogs, they are adaptable and should settle, sometimes with a little time.

I think consistency is the key. Let Dexter know he is loved and that nothing else has changed.

The other bit might be difficult - Dexter will also be picking up on the changed emotional feel of his home. If you are sad/worried/angry/confused/etc, he will know that. Spending quality time with him, playing or cuddling, and keeping your emotions positive especially during Dexter time should help you both.
