Hi first staff puppy Empty Hi first staff puppy

Post by Natash83 Tue Oct 18 2016, 17:01

Hi I'm new to all this forum and puppies lol. My name is Natallie I live in sw England with my partner and 12 year old daughter. We have recently added Skyla a now just over 9 week old staff puppy to the family. I had dogs as a child and looked after my sisters staff for 6 months a few years ago but he was fully grown and trained. I'm currently struggling with the puppy one minute feeling so glad we got her and thinking everything will be ok and the next regretting getting her and wishing I'd continued to say no to my daughter and partner (they have been asking for over 3 years to get a dog) don't get me wrong I love her to bits but she is hard work at the moment we are all still settling in but I do have 1 huge problem which I hope I will be able to get some advice on. I have posted in the chat section but will copy under this message to see if anyone can help.

Could anyone help please we have our first staff puppy she is just over 9 weeks old and has been with us almost 2 weeks she is pretty good a lot of the time but sometimes she almost goes crazy she jumps up at my face grabbing and biting she grabs my clothes arms hands just about anything she can sink her teeth into I've tried yelping that seems to make it worse I've tried keeping still in hope she will get bored I've tried standing up and turning away from her she just continues biting any part of me she can get to ive tried distracting her with toys and chews I've also tried a stern NO she just seems to move to biting a different spot. She is also doing this to my daughter who is 12 I'm worried she won't stop and I don't know what else to try or if this is her being aggressive and dominant or just play.

Hi from me & Katy, staffie pups can be a nightmare Surprised yelping & ignoring didn't help with Katy's biting, the only thing that worked with her was a time out in another room.

Was going to try time out but only place I could put her would be in her crate and I don't want her to see her crate as a punishment x

You are quiet right, the cage should be a place Skyla sees as a happy safe place. Can you put her in another room for the time out ?

Not really only have one main room only other place would be kitchen but that wouldn't be the safest place it's very small and she would not be able to see us

hello from me and Bowie,

I replied to a previous thread about training the word "off". Using a clicker and treats. If you go to YouTube and search training positive, there is an American dog trainer that shows various behaviours and tricks. Look at the puppy biting one. We used this method with Bowie, and we found it really helped!

Good luck!
