Dog and cat help
Good old Eddie has really started to settle when it comes to other dogs however he has not settled when it comes to our cat.
I would really appreciate any input when it comes to ways of trying to get him to be more friendly to our cat. If he gets hold of the cat I fear for its life and then Eddie will have to be rehoused.
I have taken him to the cat to show him close up on his lead a few times with lots of praise.
Anything else??

Re: Dog and cat help
can you set up a baby gate so that the cat knows he can get away if necessary? if so, you can then introduce them on either side of the gate.
i've never had a cat, though, so maybe others here will have some better suggestions?

Re: Dog and cat help
I don't have experience of a cat either but others have said that as long as the cat can get up high or through a baby gate to escape etc then all should be ok. I would think, given time, Eddie will get used to the cat and start to ignore it.

Re: Dog and cat help
Hi my pup is 12 weeks and we are currently adjusting him to our cat. It has good times and bad times lol. We have a stair gate like others have suggested and high places for the cats to get to. My cats are quite shy and as of yet have not put the pup in its place as such. When the cats are sleeping mine is not fussed it's when they are moving (is urs the same). When my cats are moving I sit on the floor and call my pup to come and then give treat and praise. I also get hI'm to sit when he has come to me. The idea being I am more interesting than the cat cos I give treats and cuddles lol. I don't know if this is the 'right' way to do it but it is kind of working as sometimes he will automatically just sit when he sees the cats (sometimes he won't tho). Just keep trying I'm sure we will both get there eventually

Re: Dog and cat help
Thanks for all the input. I did the above with Rosie when she was weeks old and now at 8 months she hardly notices the cat. I try the treats and making other things more interesting than the cat but as Eddie is an unknown qty and much bigger and stronger than a puppy it's so far proving frustrating.
I know it's only been a week however I fear if he doesn't settle when it comes to the cat some drastic Will have to happen.
