New dog is in the house

Oh sh%t what I have done! The first hour has been chaos !!!

A few questions to help settle my concerns....

He was desexed yesterday and she was desexed two weeks ago. He just wants to mount and lick her most of the time. Will this stop? Slow down? Or will it just continue?

By him doing this have I created a stressful situation for Rosie and could this affect her going forward?

Whilst they are engaging in Staffy play he seems to be the one doing all the whimpering and getting bossed around, does that seem like a normal situation given she was here first?

Not too bad, I will be glad when he relaxes a bit and stops pacing around.

I had to leave Rosie inside and him outside whilst we were at work today as they had a bit of fight this morning. The upside is he didn't chew anything at all.

On his own he walks really well on a lead and with some constant attention he goes ok with Rosie.

Still feel a bit stressed about it all.

Totally understand where you are right now, we have taken in fosters before and thought "what the hell have we done" but 9 times out of 10 things do settle down. We still miss one of our fosters, Max, every day as him and Bug had such a lovely bond! Hopefully this is how your two will end up.. Do you know what the fight was over? Know it's tough, but try to make the atmosphere as chilled as possible as tension/excitement may cause tiffs. I would also never leave 2 dogs together for at least the first 6 weeks or even longer - some don't leave their dogs together at all. So it may be wise to split the house when you're out so that he doesn't have to be outside on his own? What's his background and your girls background with other dogs?

This is a great read for newly adopted dogs

We have had her from day dot and socialised her from then as well. Obedience training and out just about everyday of the week. She is Good with other dogs but sometimes doesn't know when enough is enough.  

Eddie just had enough of having his ears and Legs nipped and he snapped, had her by the throat.

He is getting better with the mounting/licking thing as I keep reminding him No!

They are back to normal tonight.

He is an 100% unknown across the board.

Wow, you have bitten off a lot, but good on you.

People on here will give you lots of good advice, I would just say, walk, walk, walk them as much as you can together to get them to bond and wear them out, and remove any bones or toys to avoid squabbles.

I would image as they become more familiar with each other they'll settle and know each other's boundaries. Keep us updated Dave

It will take a while for hormones to subside, a few weeks (sorry!). It sounds like you're handling it well and hopefully it should improve quickly.
