Hey guys Neo is now 5 month old and i have bin reading lots about raw Food. Im a chef my self so getting good ingredients is not a problem.

Cold turkey - great way to start, literally! When I've changed dogs to raw, at varying ages as they are all rescues, I've just switched. Only one (Daisy) had a problem changing and that was because she'd eaten cheap complete food for 2 years and didn't know what it was. With her, we mixed the two together until she got used to it. If you have this with Neo, it's worth persevering as it's a great diet.

As you know, some meats are richer than others. Start with poultry and then, when Neo is happy with that and you're happy he's settled, add in something like lamb or beef. Just watch the fat content of lamb as they can pile on the pounds quickly if you overdo it.

Introduce offal gradually and only feed it in small quantities as it can give them upset tummies. You may notice really dark poos after offal.

And bones are a must. Poultry, lamb and veal are the best as they give all the calcium etc, but aren't too hard on the teeth. All bones should be raw.

If you want to throw in some fruit and veg do, but no grapes, apple/pear pips, avocado or macadamia nuts. A lot of dogs like carrots - you'll find out what Neo likes. Carbs like cooked potatoes, pasta, polenta, rice are all good too. They don't digest fibre well, though, so the main food source should be meat.

I'll confess I don't really feed by weight, I just look at how they are doing and adjust accordingly. This gives you some rough guidelines but use them as that only.

http://rawfeddogs.org/rawguide.html

Feeding by weight can sometimes get it right but other times be way off. Chaos (3yrs) is about 25kg and gets through about 900g in a day (about right). Millie (1.5 yrs) is about 15kg and eats probably about 750g a day. If I fed Millie according to this she'd be back to the RSPCA as a cruelty case! I like my dogs to keep slim but on the 400g or so recommended by that table she'd be skeletal. It all depends on how they burn it off, doesn't it? And, of course, on whether your dog is a good weight to start off with. If you have an underweight dog you'll not feed enough, if you have an obese dog you'll feed too much. Sorry, a bit of a thing of mine, it drives me nuts that people insist on overfeeding fat dogs because their weight says they need x amount.

Anyway, that should be a good place to start, but then just keep your brain engaged and you'll get the feel for what is right.
