What a suggestion!!! Empty What a suggestion!!!

I was out with my four over the field when a woman joins with her two terrier mix's, my male was occupied with his Kong ball and the girls were fine with the new comers.
We got talking and i mentioned not being able to leave Lexi (newest pup) in the house as she is a chewer (chewed several electrical cords) luckily they were off on the wall!!
I told her i've tried several things so far. Kongs/exercise/radio/short exits and entries on and off etc etc and none working as of yet and then thats when she suggested it, muzzling, fair enough i believe all dogs should be muzzle trained as you never know when something may happen like an accident and your dog could bite out of fear or pain, but muzzling while unattended really?? i felt sick and i wanted to take her dogs there and then, I don't even collar mine when i am not around, never know if said collar could get stuck and pulled to tight by playing dogs etc. I've never heard of such a thing but she was adamant she got told by a vet it would be ok as long as both dogs or all dogs in the house were muzzled as well.....
I know you got caged muzzles so drinking would be fine i guess, but not being able to play with the other dogs or toys are anything doesn't seem fair to me, I got my four for a reason, i love how they interact with each other and not allowing them to do that doesn't seem right to me and i very much doubt its safe but then is chewing cords and unsafe things worse?..lesser of two evils???

I don't know much about muzzles but I completely agree with you. I really don't agree that a pup should be muzzled when left alone just because she chews.

Sure someone else will be along soon to suggest something about stopping chewing as everything I know you have already tried.

I stopped my puppy chewing by rubbing clove oil onto skirting boards and door frames. It's a bit smelly but it does the trick instantly, it's vile. A lady from the Guide Dogs for Blind told me about it as they use it. If you can stand the smell lol. It's really cheap from chemist.

I did try using apple cider vinegar on my settee and things she chewed but she got used to the taste and now likes it..... I was told to try wasabi or hot sauce but i think thats a little cruel.

olbas oil stopped Gizmo pretty quickly.

I'm pretty sure the muzzle's instructions say not to leave them alone wearing them in case of accidents.

The good thing about the clove oil is that it is safe for their tummies if they did digest any as people rub it on teeth for toothache. It is really nasty tasting stuff you should give it a go xx
