Avoidance Empty Avoidance

Post by Two89w Sun Feb 07 2016, 10:53

We have been taking Rosie out for walks and trying to socialise her with other dogs.

I have noticed that a lot of dog owners of small and large breeds avoid us for reasons unknown to me.

Has anyone else experienced this ?

Sadly yes, quite often. Only yesterday a man saw us walking along the street, just quietly, minding our own business and he felt the need to do a u turn and go back the other way with his retriever!
Best to just ignore people like this as they've been brainwashed by the anti staffy media!

Sadly I think a lot of us have experienced this. It's the uneducated dog owners who see a staff and can't get away quick enough. In my experience it's always those with little yappy untrained dogs that look at my girl like she's foaming at the mouth where in actual fact it's their dogs who are behaving badly.

Try not to worry, I look at the positives, all that space with no one else in it! It also works the other way, I've lost count of the number of people making a point to come over to us just because they love Staffords.

It's always nice to see your dog play with others, does Rosie go to puppy class as this is great for socialization.

Unfortunately a lot of people have the perception that Staffies will maul anything in range which as we know couldn't be further from the truth.

Sometimes it comes down to the human too, I walk my girl with confidence and whilst she's deaf, she is the most placid girl unless she gets uncomfortable in which case we distract her. This shows real control and those that we see regularly that once were unsure are quiet happy to stop and talk Smile

I would say most staffy/bull dog owners have had this happen. I always take it in good humor really, cause i know that lexi would not be great on the lead with other dogs.

ive had people cross the road with their children when me and mia have been minding our own business despite the fact mia sees the child and her tail wags to the point I thought it was going to fall off! as a staffy owner u learn to have a thick skin I wouldnt trust another breed children with children tbh.
