My brave little mate
Not sure where to post this really but need to say just how proud I am of my Loki. I am in bed and Loki is on my bed asleep. He hears the front door opening so jumps up, barks and runs downstairs to see who it is. It's only hubby coming back in but so proud to think he's already ''looking after us''. As soon as he saw it was Glenn he just came back up to me. Proud much Loki is just a little over 4 months old by the way

Hiya. Try not to romanticise this behaviour - I've never expected my dog to protect me, if anything it's the other way around! Loki's repsonse could in fact be a fear response to something unknown, which isn't something to encourage. I have a dog that is fear-aggressive with strangers and I can't tell you how much I wish she wasn't so suspicious of people! Staffies are brave in lots of ways, but the biggest wimps around in others (namely, when it's raining!)

I never expect anything to be honest but it was unexpected. I don't want him being anything other than child and adult friendly. He is going to be going to puppy training because it's important for us both to bring him up the right way xx I would never want him to be aggressive in any way x

Spot on
The fact he was brave enough to get up and see who it was is great. Rachel is right, some of our Staffies can appear really tough but we know underneath the bravado they are simply softies. It's still nice to know that he will look up and see who's coming in though, my girl feels the breeze and then might, just might investigate

Re: My brave little mate
Bless his cottons. I agree with Rachel and Ian, though. I think staffies are incredibly sensitive souls and what appears to be bravery and even aggression is in fact worry.
I train my dogs to come away from worrying things with a 'quiet' followed by a treat. Loki's a perfect age to start that already.
