Hi all,
Its been a while since I last posted. Roxy is now 18 months old. The wonder girl in the family. She is very friendly and so well socialized that she is an utter joy around the house. She has had an on going complaint with her front paw. An x-ray showed a chipped bone, which we are trying to rest but often fail. She limps a lot but never cries or complains just takes it in her stride. She is now on a two week steroids - and it seems to be working.
Roxy loves company but is content to stay outside the back (weather permitting every second day =resting). My husband built her a house the size of a dinning room table, with an entrance and room off and away from wind and rain. He also insulated it and put carpet on the sides and bottom, and we open the roof and vacuum it weekly with new bedding. The other days Roxy is in doggies day care (7.30am to 6.30pm). She is very playful - the large bommer ball only lasted 2 weeks before she ripped it to shreds. She loves bones, but doesn't dig, she loves balls and anything she can tear apart. She loves plants and flowers and even ate some I had taken from the car and left in the hallway ready to re-plant after her last "pig out". She sleeps on one of us on the sofa during the evening, then goes out for loo check and then off to bed. My husband lets her out first thing and puts her back to bed with her blanket before he leaves for work. When my daughter and I come down she doesn't get out of bed, until we give the command. I have never known such an obedient dog. Roxy loves our daughter (mummy) and if she is out with her pals, you just ask Roxy where is mummy and she looks everywhere in the house looking for her. She doesn't bark much only if we don't play or throw the ball fast enough. She loves nothing more than going upstairs to the spare room and sitting by the window looking into the other gardens and looking for cats. She cries when she sees cats, never barks !!!!
We don't walk her very often, sometimes a week can go by without a walk, but we play ball in the garden and tug of war with her. She never seems to bothered as long as the ball is thrown to her and she gets an hour or two of play with us. She will sit near the dinning room window and the tails wags when a person or dog passes by. She just obeys us without fail. She still jumps up on guests coming into the house, but will go to her bed when we tell her. We are truly blessed with her

Oh bless her! She does sound an absolute gem.

If the bone doesn't heal can they remove it? I just wonder if it's grumbling on like this whether it might not be better to just take the chip out. It sounds like you're all coping incredibly well, though.

All thanks for all the kind replies, I was so worried, I'd have replies saying how lazy her owners were not walking Roxy. She has regular visits to the vets and they are monitoring the pawl The vet said if it continues that an operation will be required, so we are aware "down the road" this might be the outcome.
She came back from doggie day care yesterday ( a week into her tablets) with no limp. The team in doggie day care are excellent with Roxy and often remove her from the older dogs and have her in with the pups and then let her rest in the motel area. Its just Roxy doesn't seem to have any pain with the paw, Roxy just goes and goes on playing. At home today (resting) with 2 bowls of water, her breakfast, and 3 bones and toys galore. I will keep you posted, and again Thank you. Big Grin

she sounds a real gem!

my only real criticism of no/few walks is lack of socialisation & general road manners, but as she goes to doggie day care, i doubt that it's a problem!

She gets plenty of socialization at doggie day care as she has been there since she was 3 months old and knows plenty of the dogs from our area that go there too. She still pulls on the harness so we try to take her to an empty field and let her run wild catching the ball, then when she is nice & tired, she is easy to manage on the lead. She is afraid of the road noise and will refuse to walk down the main road if we take her directly from the house. So we sometimes take her in the car about 15 mins from the house onto a main road (large foothpaths) and one of us walks home with her, making lots of eye contact with her, and giving her praise and treats. She is fine with the walk as she doesn't know where to go without us and will walk side by side (inside nearer to the walk). We stop often and give her treats and chat all the way home - so she sees the cars and hears the noises, tail wags when she sees people or dogs, doesn't bark, just cries in a child like way....But boy when she gets near the house, she goes mad to get home and onto the sofa. ...

Sounds perfect to me, Adele. That all dogs had the same attention and understanding as Roxy!

Let us know how it goes with her foot, will you? Fingers crossed you can avoid the op but it's good to know that there's the fallback if you need it.
