1st ever staffy
Hello all
This Sunday we will have our first ever staffy puppy. In the past we have had border collies and a schipperke.
My understanding is staffys love to chew.
I am looking for some insight on what sort of toys are best for this type of dog to chew on and any other tips for a staffy novice.

Re: 1st ever staffy
Hi ya, welcome to the forum from Flo and me
I'm glad to read you've decided to get a proper Dog this time only kiddin. Is your new addition a puppy ? If so then I would recommend tough rope toys. If you're getting an older Staffy rope toys are good and so are Antlers. They aren't cheap but will last for ages (I wouldn't suggest a puppy has one though)
You must be excited, you'll have to pop some pictures on here for us to see

Opps... I see it is a puppy. Rope toys are what I would suggest.
Hopefully others will be along later to offer more suggestions

Re: 1st ever staffy
I like rope toys for puppies as well. They also love ripping up cardboard and it's not the end of the world if they actually swallow some, so cardboard tubes and boxes and a good cheap way of keeping them amused.

Re: 1st ever staffy
Ruby loved the cardboard off loo rolls, washing liquid tubs (the ones that go in the drum) and her fave was them silver pan scrubber things. She was never really into toys and I mainly used things from around the house. I was lucky as she never chewed anything she shouldn't but
Would scarper like lightning if she managed to get a pen or a peg haha

Re: 1st ever staffy
Possibly yes to the first, but definitely yes to the second!!! Staffies are amongst the most affectionate, human bonded dogs out, it's part of the reason we love them so much.
One tip, don't alway give attention when it's demanded or you will create a rod for your own back going forwards. You can end up with a needy, attention seeking dog, and that makes for problems with separation anxiety and stuff like that. From the beginning, have times where you say no, not now (nicely of course!), and as your girl gets old enough to start some basic training, use her love of attention as a reward for doing things you ask.

They are very human oriented as you will find out but that is one of the reasons we love them so much. How's things going D Day + 1 ?

They are going well.
The doggy door has been mastered.
Potty training is progressing.
Feline relations are improving however there are still moments of iciness
S#%t she has sharp sharp teeth and loves to use them when she is not all over you like a rash !!

Re: 1st ever staffy
All sounds good for such early days. There are lots of threads about nipping/biting on here, it's very, very common, so worth having a read to start putting that little boundary in place now.
I'm sure the feline relations will be sorted soon, if you only have moments of iciness you're doing well!

Is everyone else having flashbacks to the puppy fangs of doom?
Remember to keep all your wires, shoes, clothes and phones as high up as possible.
Rosie's a gorgeous wee girl, I bet you'll have lots of love and fun from her.

Hi from me and Bella. My Bellas our first wee Staffy too. The first thing I noticed was her sharp teeth. But they also love their cuddles. Bella favorite place to cuddle is round my neck lol.

Re: 1st ever staffy
The canvas toys from Hunter are great, especially whem they are teething.
The toys from Zeedog are very good as well, they dispense treats and because they are irregularly shaped they bounce all over the place.
The rubber bone toy rope from Kong to play tug of war is great as well once the have their adult teeth.
