Walking without jabs Empty Walking without jabs

Post by Dan-C- Tue Oct 27 2015, 19:28

Hey,

I know this will make me sound like a reckless, almost cruel, owner but when I got Jess I was under the impression she'd had her jabs. It was my own fault, I totally misread what the seller had said.

I've now got her booked in for her first jab but I'm also walking her because, frankly, she goes nuts without a walk and becomes really aggressive.

I know there's a risk there and its not one I really want to take but how big is the risk? I've read up online and many people seem to be anti-jabs and believe it leads to a weaker immune system and some dogs are allergic to them (so have to live without them).

So I suppose my question is how high a risk would the more experienced owners consider it and what are the warning signs of illness so I can keep an eye out for them while she's undergoing the process?

Thanks Smile

I'm not a vet so really can't say what the health risks are, however, personally I wouldn't take the risk.

I'm sure others will be more clued up on this than me Dan and be able to offer more practical advice.

Hi while you await the vaccinations to avoid illness potentially avoid other dogs and grassy areas. I do advise you vaccinate your dog though otherwise the training ,socialisation won't come into play if your dogs a pup some vets do a deal for a certain amount you qualify for free microchipping too Smile

She might get wound up if she's not getting something she expects - habits can set in very quickly - but as a puppy she's not going to be aggressive. I'd find other ways of letting her let off steam and personally wouldn't risk walking her unvaccinated.

they need their jabs and their repeat ones a year later, many people will not have them again for another 3 years, many will have them done every year,me being one of them, its really not worth the risk not to have them done, you would never forgive your self if she got poorly just for the sake of her not having them

Was far as I'm aware, even those that are anti-vaccine still give the first set. They're very important, I've seen so many pups with parvovirus in kennels and it's really horrific. As previously mentioned, I could almost guarantee that she's not being "aggressive," she's probably just displaying frustration. It's not worth the risk IMO. Wear her out at home with play and training, you could mix her with fully vaccinated dogs at your home to continue her socialisation.

I've got her booked in on payday, I've certainly no intention of leaving her unvaccinated. I would be pretty devastated if something were to happen to her.

I just get tired of her barking, snapping and biting when she's not had a walk. I tried just training her and playing with her but not even my four and six year old sisters can tire her out!

I've just had my back garden refenced so she can spend some time in there but it certainly doesn't stimulate her. I've been googling a lot and I've got some new games that might be more effective at calming her own and entertaining her. I'd rather that than she got ill!

It is tough keeping them calm in house, they're a very active breed and certainly need a lot of attention! Many find it near on impossible to really tire them out - however, do take into account that she may be overtired/overstimulated and may need "enforced" naps (settling her with a teddy/toy/blanket in a quiet area to ensure she's getting her sleep!) It all sounds very typical behaviour to me Smile What sort of games/training are you playing with her at the moment?

I concur and would also avoid the walks. Short training sessions on basic commands will help tire her out, as would hiding treats and making her search for them. Tug of war is also excellent and can help teach the release command.

Walking a pup without 2 most important jabs is very lethal for their health as the worst illness they can get is the easiest to catch just by sniffing pee and other traces of different animals, can get them infected i think it's called "canine distemper" not 100% of the name, i know they can catch it by sniffing pee, poo etc, older dogs are more immue and they may never catch such infection
