What time to feed? Empty What time to feed?

Post by Laura_sa Fri Aug 28 2015, 08:02

Our 8-month-old seems to be getting fussier and fussier with food and is generally not interested in breakfast at all.

We were feeding three times a day, now breakfast and supper. Could it be that one meal a day is fine for her?

The vet said she is ready for adult food, so could it just be that her appetite has dropped dramatically?

I am now getting strict with the half-hour rule as I think she is just stubborn or gets bored. We mostly feed home-cooked meals with a lot of tasty meat. We also feed dry quality pellets.

I do suspect she is just fussy.

When we went away with family, she wasn't interested in her delicious home-cooked food and instead gobbled up the other dog's pellets. We got her some of those pellets and now she couldn't be bothered.

So, the question really is. Do their appetites drop quite a bit? And is one meal a day fine?

One meal a day is fine and allot of people go with that option. We still feed Suki 3 times a day plus to regular snacks. She loves to eat and we worry about bloat so more frequent feedings work best for us.

buddy gets fed twice a day and treats - some days he eats other days he doesn't - he is just lazy if I hand feed him he will eat if in his dish he walks away - on days he doesn't eat I cut down on the treats to make him hungry - he soon eats next day - I feed breakfast after a walk and late afternoon /evening normally after a walk or sometimes before if he going to have a late walk .he will be 8 months mid October

My Spike gets fed 4 times a day..Approx every 3 to 4 hours, but his evening meal is light. I give him a few treats throughout the day. He's on a raw diet which dogs digest much faster than kibble. That said, he poos less on raw than he did on processed food.
When he's older i'll drop to 3 then eventually twice daily. If he doesn't want his dinner (very rare), i'll pick it up after 30 minutes or so.
For treats i either give him bits of chicken or cocktail sausages. I also give him cow tracea (occasionally stuffed with chicken mince), or beef heart..He goes nuts for it!

Mine get twice, one with nuts and wet in morning and just a snack in teh evening (usually some meat scraps or similar) before that lexi only got once a day and she did fine, in fact i would like her only to get once a day now but my parents feed and there is literally no telling them. I have asked so many times not to feed her twice but they just do anyway so i have had to give up.
