Hello to all the staffy lovers.

Hi all, I am a newbie to this board. I recently rescued a Am. Staff/Pit Bull. I like the staffy's just not to many around.

I have a few questions regarding health of the staffy's and their history.

I had English Bulldogs and I really got into their history. I noticed that English Bulldog, Am. Staff/Pit Bull and American Bulldog breeders have conflicting of the Old English Bulldog and the modern breeds that we know today.

1.) Are their any history buffs that can recommend any readings, web sites or any useful information regarding the bulldog history and their byproducts, ie.. staffy's, bull terriers, am staffs?

2.) My dog has a stafford shire terrier head. He is a fine looking dog, but he has breathing issues in the heat and humidity much like my English Bulldogs did. Is this an issue with the breed? My guess is no given the dogs incredible stamina, but I am wondering if any of you had heard of this with any dogs?

The only book I've read is "The Staffordshire Bull Terrier" by Alec Waters. It gives a brief history and what the standards are etc.

Staffies don't tend to suffer with breathing issues unlike other Bull breeds.

Hopefully others will be able to offer more info.

Hi there i dnt know of any breathing problems but a staffy does have a tendancy to overheat it would be a good idea to have your dog in a room with a window slightly ajar and curtains closed i find lined curtains as they are better at keeping the heat at bay also a damp cloth or spraying your dog with water to keep them cool
