Buddy and puppy training
Well Buddy went to his first class last night - wasn't allowed to take part as they like the dog to watch first to get used to the noise and the other dogs.. he was really good - considering he has only been out for three weeks on walks and met maybe three dogs he was well away in the thick of all the dogs - made lots of doggy friends of all shapes and sizes. Does love a big dog though the GSD , Lurchers and greyhounds were of a particular favourite !
After such a naughty day at home he let off steam and was really good - made every one smile when the class was learning "enough" and had to make their dogs bark - they all stopped and Buddy decided he wanted a go but his little bark sounds like the Tasmanian devil not a staff - every one laughed at him and he hid under the chair to sulk!!
he got a bit naughty towards the end but he was tired and hungry as he hadn't been fed due to car sickness - needless to say he slept all the way home and made some new friends - really looking forward to going next week and taking part ..
Back to his usual loony self this morning though!

Re: Buddy and puppy training
I think training classes are a must for us as much as the pups.
They don't really learn a lot there, apart from socialisation, all the hard work is done between classes. But you'll see him coming on great week by week.

Re: Buddy and puppy training
The puppy classes in my area trained the dogs later on to enter competitions and is run by the local dog warden thought it was excellent as he has a wealth of experience been the local dog warden for over 20 years and loves staffies. Think it depends on who runs the classes.

Re: Buddy and puppy training
the lady who runs the classes runs a boarding kennels and also a dog rescue centre all the training classes money goes to the rescue - she has been a trainer/breeder for 25 years - she has 14 dogs herself...she is so good at what she does a real animal lover - her "dog " rescue centre has rescued geese, donkeys , birds, sheep, cats .. she just will not let any animal suffer , she takes all the unclaimed dogs at the pounds who are to be put down and rehomes them ..heart of gold...

Re: Buddy and puppy training
most are GSD or GSD x - half of them were from pounds and were due to be put to sleep- some had behavioural issues and she couldn't rehome them so she has taken them in ... she has just spent nearly three days and nights sleeping on the floor of a vets with a Belgian shepherd dog that was so underweight they didn't know she was pregnant - she had 12 puppies- three died and the rest have found foster dogs - the mum then collapsed and they found puppy 13 wedged under her ribs -it had been dead in her for ages and poisoned her.. Pat stayed with her throughout refusing to leave her - on Monday this week the vet said she had 60% chance of survival- today Pat took her home to be dog number 14 ..100% better .. 3k vet bill all paid for by the volunteers and people who support her charity .. she will be rehoming the pups at 8 weeks old too .. she is an inspiring lady .. that's for sure !

Re: Buddy and puppy training
Mia looks adorable.. I am hoping training will calm Buddy down a bit he is a it of a fruit loop! always running round at 100miles an hour the poor cat is so fed up of being jumped on I hope training will help reinforce some of the basics we have taught him - scared one day I wont be quick enough to rescue the cat ...

Re: Buddy and puppy training
yes it is Mutt in distress - all the fees from her training classes go to the rescue - she also runs Normandale kennels - Buddy had a great weekend stay there two weeks ago - loved being the star of the show there !! which is good as he is going back for two weeks in August - I would have loved a mutts dog but they didn't have any thing that was good with cats at the time

Re: Buddy and puppy training
Glad Buddy did so well, made me "aww" and giggle a bit when he barked and everyone laughed. His reaction was adorable. Pat is an amazing soul to do something so selfless and kind. Bless her heart.

I took some stuff over there a couple of years ago, very nice people! We nearly went over when we were looking for Chaos but then someone suggested AA which is much closer, about 20 instead of nearly and hour.
