dry food recomendations - first walk and food advice Empty first walk and food advice

hi - I have been reading all the puppy posts as new to the site and they have helped me so much already - Buddy is 11 weeks old and I am still house training due to no interest by the breeder of him to toilet train in any way so he has bad habits but I am sure we will get there just taking a little longer than some- but putting that aside I have two questions
no 1.
first walk- I hear it is good on the first walk to let them off the lead .. to do this does the puppy have to have mastered recall? Buddy knows his name but doesn't always come when called - he also thinks its a great game to run away if you approach him..so I don't want to let him off and then he doesn't come and then runs away when I try and get him!- I can take him to a secure field but really I wanted the first walk to be the walk we will do every morning to get him used to the sounds and sights and the park that is on the walk is close to a road hence the issue with him running away ..

No2 Food - the people I got buddy from was feeding him on pedigree chum puppy food which I hate- so I have weaned him off that over the last week , using butchers tinned food and wainwrights dried food mixed together, he does not seem to like just the dried food even if I soak it - moving forward what can I mix his dried with - I am conscious that both the dried and the tinned are "Complete" type of foods and I do not want to overload his system and end up with a fat or hyper dog ! - I am not keen on using tinned anything really but as I work and go home lunchtimes to give him some food I need something quick to feed -so I can fit the feed, the
toilet and a little paly all in an hour or so ?

any suggestions please ?

Don't worry about the house training not having been started - they all tend to pick it up quite quickly, even older pups, as long as you are consistent in taking him out every hour, especially first thing in the morning and after every meal.

First walks off lead - recall isn't an issue as young puppies tend to stick to you like glue. In the house, practise 'Buddy come' = treat, and do the same outside, even if you're not actually calling him. All he needs to know is that 'Buddy come' means he gets a treat.

Do put him on the lead for a few minutes here and there so he gets used to the feel of it, and of course have him on the lead if it's necessary, such as near roads and near on-lead dogs. Let him socialise with others but check with other owners if it's ok and work on the assumption that an on-lead dog is on lead for a reason, and that reason migh be because he's not great with others.

As for feeding... pass! I've never fed tin and it's years since I fed anything except raw, so I won't even hazard a guess.
