Tug o' War...yes or no?
So I've been playing some tug with my 10 week old staff Arlo, but in a very controlled manner.
I'm training a cue word to start and drop when playing so it doesn't get out of hand. He's totally fine and never gets carried away, always playful and tug is under my terms.
However, I've recently been reading that you shouldn't play tug with staffy pups (heard it from a few sources) for various reasons...
What do you guys think?
Is there an issue with starting a game like tug with a dog that has a monster jaw? I saw it as a positive as he gets to use his predatorial/instinctual behaviour in a controlled manner...

Re: Tug o' War...yes or no?
We love tug here Bug has a strong leave command, which is vital, but it's a fun game and good exercise. May be a little more careful not to be too vigorous with a growing pup, don't want to do any damage! There were some people a few years back against it, but the blue cross behaviourists really encourage it now. As long as you know the dog, and they don't get too overstimulated/you can end the game safely, go for it

Completely agree with the above post, as long as it's controlled and not too rough for the little one all will be fine. Using it as a way to teach drop is ideal and will come in useful as he gets older and plays with Balls and sticks etc.
To be honest, my Flo never gives up and won't drop on command even when we stand our ground with her she won't let go of he Stix until she's ready to. We got her as a rescue and was probably never taught to drop so again, I think you should use it to train

Such a fun game when its controlled. Its perfect for teaching the leave command so yeah id say go for it. My boy wont leave for anything unless he wants to play fetch, but he LOVES tug anyway and never picks up anything he shouldn't

agree with above and with any game in general and toys be careful of wear and tear on toys and pieces falling off, i wouldn't buy any toys with a squeaker in as the sqeaker is liable to be swallowed.

Nothing wrong with a game of tug. The leave command helps and it's great exercise. Just be aware that the pup will get much stronger and still want to play if he gets used to it so if you can handle it than go for it

I do agree with playing tug of war,, me and my partner have been playing it with him since day one,, he does get a little bit rough nipping & biting but overtime Tyson has learnt if we shout 'ow' he will * himself and then come back to us to say sorry so in my eyes keep doing what you do just make sure your dog knows your boss and ull be fine.
Good luck!
