pup doesn't like going on walks
Hi my 7 month old pup doesn't like going on walks every time I take her she just wants to go home if I let her off the lead she runs back to the gate in the field to try and get back home I've tried giving lots of fuss and treats but she won't eat anything when we're out on a walk any help would be appreciated

Re: pup doesn't like going on walks
This is possibly going to sound cruel but it isn't - I think you need to stop the fuss and the treats. It's so easy to end up rewarding the fear behaviour because it get good things. Reward the right behaviour, so if she does come with you nicely then give her praise, but ignore her worries.
Try maybe taking her somewhere different so she doesn't have a fixed pattern of behaviour associated with that place, and have her on a longer line so she can make some choices, then just stand quietly while she decides what to do. If she tries to run for the car or something, ignore it. If she relaxes then praise her. Walk a bit and do the same thing - praise her if she comes, ignore her if she worries. I don't mean drag her along, if she tries to pull back just stand still and wait for her to come with you, then praise her.
You could also try taking a toy with you and playing with her, making being outside fun.

Must agree with what as already been said try taking her in the car somewhere different and then use a long lead and take some toys let her find her own pace and eventually she will enjoy.good luck.
Re: pup doesn't like going on walks
My Flo is nearly 9 and will still act like a rock and plainly refuse to walk, however, whilst she plays up I'll have none of it and have even resorted to picking her up and carrying her down the road. Once the house is out of sight, she will happily trot along.
I also agree with the above posts. Try somewhere new in the car or even walk in a different direction but most of all, make the walk a fun thing by getting excited and maybe taking a fave toy with you

My Harley still sometimes doesn't like walks, he's only 17 weeks and is super confident now but now and again he'll still have the odd day where he'll refuse to budge from our house and try to get out of his harness - we take his favourite toy and keep throwing it for him down the pavement and once we're a few streets away he starts trotting along happily to the park!

Re: pup doesn't like going on walks
I have to pick Ruby up and take her out of sight of the house. She likes to walk along next to a wall or fence and is unsure when we cross the road and she cowers when a car goes past but she's getting better. As soon as she knows we're on our way home she sprints with no bother!
