Collar's for puppies?
Hi Merry Xmas all Ruby has at the moment a cheapy collar and harness from our local bargain shop from when she was smaller 8 weeks, shes now 12 weeks and shes grown so the collar its now not strong enough for her and starting to tear a little from where shes pulling!!
We lead her around our large back garden for toilet and walking , also for when we are outside having a coffee etc we tie her up next to us. Im not in the UK but have been looking for a decent one on Ebay but have no idea on a good collar and a lot seem either too long or too wide for her little size at the moment?

WE always used cheap stuff until Suki was full grown. Now we use a no pull harness and a half check collar for her walks

Thanks, maybe ill have a look at our local pet shop and see if i can get a wider one for the next few months they just don't have a lot of variety and the ones at the bargin stores are quite skinny and its tearing at the clips.

Re: Collar's for puppies?
Agree with Jstaff, at that age just get what will do as you will be changing it soon anyway. my only suggestion is dont buy off ebay yet unless you have some recomendations from people that have used that particular product. get something you can try on first in a shop so you can see how well it fits.
When she is starting to mature think about the branded stuff which will have a size guide that makes more scense in an adult dog.
Ebay is fine dont get me wrong but its better when the dog is adult to buy there. I got both my bikejor harnesses custom made from a loverly lass on there. for everyday walking I use the Julius K9 power harnesses which give good control with a nice fat strap across the chest and they dont rub on dogs that pull.

Re: Collar's for puppies?
if its just a decent collar try ancol, most pet shops will have them or will be able to order one in to try. if you email them they will send you a catalogue to choose and take into a store. i found them very accomodating and willing to help when i was looking. take a neck measurement and send it in to them and tell them its for a puppy.DebsNZ wrote:Thanks, maybe ill have a look at our local pet shop and see if i can get a wider one for the next few months they just don't have a lot of variety and the ones at the bargin stores are quite skinny and its tearing at the clips.

Re: Collar's for puppies?
Half check collars are the only collars I have ever used. Another name for them is martingale, that's not a brand name, and ezydog do one that we tried and I thought I would prefer it but we've gone back to an ordinary half check.

Whip her down to Animates and get her fitted rather than buying online. Don't spend heaps on it as she will soon outgrow it. I used an EzyDog collar mostly (I'm in Oz) which I'm sure you can get there.

Re: Collar's for puppies?
Try ae collars, they are made to measure and you can specify the width. I have just bought a 3/4 inch collar for Baxter, he is 7 months and it looks great, we got the matching lead as well. They are more expensive than you'll pay in your local pet shop but the quality is excellent and there is enough adjustment to fit even when they are fully grown

Re: Collar's for puppies?
The last two collars Bane has had are from this ebay shop (We had the Batman one) They do half checks if you want them and adjust by about 4 inches so last ages!

They have loads of different patterns and sizes too! We haven't had any problems with them.

Re: Collar's for puppies?
Hi debz, we have always had Harley on an ezy dog collar from the word go. They are padded on the inside and adjustable I also tried a few other brands but they would make his eyes go red if he pulled. Hope that helps
