feeling aggetated
Ok so now me and my partner are feeling defeated with nico no matter what we do for him. Since 9 last night till this very second (18 hours) nico has done nothing but yelp for 14 of them this is 3 nights in a row and struggling now ... we eat our dinner he is yelping, we leave the room hes yelping at night when we try sleep hes yelping id say on average on 24 hour scale he is yelping 16 hours of it ... we have had 7 dogs between us in our lives and not once have we witnessed this behaviour.
Our daughter is very ill and he kept her up most of the night. Im thinking of giving him up to the dogs trust if this does not in anyway cease ... we really do love him to bits but this yelping is out of control
Please help

Re: feeling aggetated
Is this the dog with the dodgy tail? It could be that something is bothering him and he's trying to attract your attention. I don't know what the situation is regarding his day-to-day activities and your response to him but I would suggest he could be uncomfortable or in pain. It would certainly be a shame to give up on him if all he's trying to do is tell you he's not feeling well.

Hey man i know what you mean ... yes the one with the tail but we had him vet checked but showed no discomfort on his tail i think the previous owners might have cuddled him too much etc

Re: feeling aggetated
Hi DarylÂ
Does Nico have lots of toys to occupy him? what we do if were eating we put Harley out into the other room and give him a frozen Kong to chew or give him a chew stick this seems to work for him and keeps him from crying worth a go. is your boy using a crate at night? we bought harley a crate and tried everything to make him sleep in it but nothing seemed to work and he too would cry all night. So we change tactic and brought him up stairs for a week and had his bed next to ours then when he knew we weren't far we moved him back down stairs and put the radio on and gave him a treat before bed and made no fuss before going to bed and he has been brilliant since no wining or crying. I know everyone has a different way of doing things but for us it worked well.

Re: feeling aggetated
Just a question, when he's whining/yelping are you going to him? If so, don't. As hard as it may seem if you keep going to him he knows that's what he has to do to get attention. If you ignore his yelping he'll eventually stop doing it. It won't be an overnight fix though so be prepared for a few noisy days but it will work eventually

Re: feeling aggetated
Daryl what is his routine? Does he play with you or dogs? Is he yelping just when in the crate? How many hours daily he's in the crate?

Re: feeling aggetated
Could be attention seeking if so yes ignore it, bearing in mind poor baby left his Mum earlier than normal. I would defo check at vets that he is in no discomfort or pain though

Re: feeling aggetated
Hi I think if this has just started I would pop him to the vets in case there is some problem, he's also very young to be without his Mother, does he have plenty of toys ?, I know he prob shredding your nerves at the mo but it's a big adjustment for you and Nico

Re: feeling aggetated
We got Katy at 6 weeks old, she was taken away from her mum at 5 weeks old. The person advertising her said she got her from her uncle in Sheffield but after a week they had had enough!!! Its harder work than getting a pup from a decent breeder as they still need their mum & siblings. Try & ignore the yelping as much as you can, I know its hard but its for the best. We didn't have that problem but her mouthing was a nightmare!!! Stick with it & he will turn out as a fantastic dog like Katy has

Re: feeling aggetated
hey guys thanks for the feedback on this
Peppa - he is only in his crate when he sleeps or when we are out. we are slowly introducing himto cleo as she was a little too rough at first ya know so once he is a little bigger we will let them run around for a short time together before extending the play time.
