Do you think raw food is fare better for a dog then say feeding him on a good dry food ? personally im thinking it would be good to use raw as something different to keep it interesting.

I've fed my last two dogs raw, and I do think it's much better. A pup can handle raw food from a very early age, especially if it's minced, although I've usually mixed some dry complete puppy food with it. Once it's adult teeth are through you can start giving raw meaty bones as well.

If you're going to feed raw, then feed raw, or raw & dry together - don't give raw one day & dry the next, you'll find your dog will start to refuse one (usually the dry!). Don't forget, even most of the good dry foods have additives which raw doesn't. However, raw feeding isn't always as easy as it sounds & you should research it thoroughly before you go ahead.

Is there any good websites on dog nutrition maybe with food plans ect.

I have tried pebbles with the complete dried foods and tried introducing it with a bit of meat but she wont eat it. I was told to not give in and feed her meat. But after 4 days of just sniffing the food and leaving it i had to put her back on wet diet. doesn't appear to be doing her any harm though so not overly concerned.

been reading about this one got very good reviews Eukanuba Dog Food Staffordshire Bull Terrier. its £35 for 7.5kg bag

found the pero to be ok adn delivered in my case next day..they do trial sizes of i believ e2.5 kg with box of organic treats for a £5

at the end of the day its what your dog is happy on and what you want to pay ,but i'd deffo stay away from the likes of wagg [lots of wheat poor protein] and the more comercial supermarket brands [pal,pedegree,bakers,even own brands of so called premium store brands 'tescos premium'],all the bright colours just for the owners ,like feeding your kids smarties all the time .even supermarket treats etc are of poor quality 'fat,additives,meat and animal derivitives[could be absolutly anything eww]

ye i got it it actully a 3kg bag with treats and you get the fiver back in a five pounds off your next purchase so its cost me 15pounds to get a 10kg sack of puppy/jr he been on it a month now and iv had no probs just makin sure you had no probs with it coz it good to get somebody elses oppinion cheers

i also noticed they do a staffy food which im going to give a try when he gets to one

does anybody use purina-beta its what i feed my macks on and he does realy good on it he likes it a lot, also what the best raw meat to feed chicken,beef,pork,lamb??

Chicken can cause allergies and awful wind. Lamb is great, beef can be a bit rich. Not tried pork with my boy yet. Charlie is on Wainwrights puppy, which is fab, with raw meat and eggs. Now that he's reached 3 months, I'm going to move him over to raw food completely. Gotta wait for his adult teeth til I can give him the big bones tho

If your dog tends to be hyper, then I'd steer clear of beef. I stick with lamb, tripe & ox heart, with some lamb kidneys thrown in sometimes. I can't give mine chicken cause he's chicken-intolerant & it gives him the most awful runs!

You don't need to wait for his adult teeth, just till he starts teething. Then give him chicken wings (if he can tolerate them) or lamb spines/necks or lamb ribs. The bones are hard enough to exercise his teeth/jaws (and help loosen the puppy teeth) but not so hard they'll damage his teeth.

so lamb is probably the best then, is it easy to get the lamd spines,necks ect will most butchers have them he isnt over hyper so i might try him on some ox heart and give him the ox heart raw yes?? i wont be changing his diet completely to raw just give him it a couple of times week i alread give him tripe.

You can get the bones from durham animal feeds on line. I can't, unfortunately as they're not delivering to the east midlands yet! I have to rely on my friendlt Morrissons butcher!

Yes, give the ox heart raw. Treat it as ordinary meat, not offal, as it's a muscle meat. You should remember to give offal at least once a week.

Be careful if you're feeding both raw & dry - the dogs digestion may not be able to cope as the stomach digests raw & dry at different rates. Really, you should feed one or the other - not both, although if you're feeding dry then a couple of raw bones a week will be fine.

yeah im only thinkin of giving the raw maybe once or twice a week as he does realy well on the dry i give him and i dont want to change a good thing if you know what i mean, i just realy want to give him the raw as a nice treat, im in co durham myself so i might check out the durham animal feeds. or my local butcher is realy good he gave me a nice bag of lamb bones the other day for free. do you add any mixer biscuits with the ox heart.

In that case stick to the bones, not the raw meat (ie ox heart etc) as you'll end up upsetting his stomach. Durham animal feeds are good for bones, or so I'm told.

ive just read the thread and its given me so much to think about. dont think i'd be able to keep up with the raw feeding so think i might try the Pero SBT.

When I used to feed dried food I liked the James Wellbeloved Lamb and Veg. Fab food and no grain

It's always best to go for one without grain fillers.

I use wainwrights too, Hollie loves it, she's on the Turkey n Rice at mo

Blue is back on the turkey and rice.....he loves it. Got him Duck and rice last time and he went off it.
I got a couple of packs of meat to see how he was. 400g chicken and 400g of turkey. I give him the chicken raw and he left it and ate the dry food, but it didn't go to waste as the cat polished it off

I have mine on hills and they love it ,have'nt looked back ,a breeder friend of mine suggested jjpremier,s,on online company who set up against hills ,same sort of formula but slightly cheaper ,but you have to say your a breeder to get delivery ,havent tried because mine are settled on hills ,i think Holsten speaks for the results .....

acana i use from canada much the same as orijen no grain which is what gives them skin trouble which is what killed my last staffy look it up 70% meat 30% fruit and veg.

Has any one heard of Wagg i'v seen it around and i'v looked at the reviews on it and they all seem pretty positive.

I feed Molly Wagg treats, she loves them, got no idea about the actual food though.

My mum feeds her GSD wagg............she has tried him with loads of stuff and he has a real fussy tummy. Wag gluten free is the only one that he has been alright on. But to be honest I've not even looked to see what it contains.

i believe that wagg whilst cheap is not of good quality as it has poor protein content,and is heavily wheat based,which is not too good for dogs of a jittery tummy and allergic type..but that said if your dog likes it and looks OK.. then thats all that matters..how much is wagg £9 for 15 kg hmmmm

Wagg is another low quailty food im afraid like bakers etc.....cheap and cheerful. Chappy is another low quailty food but some people swear by it for their dogs who have sensitive tummys! So whatever suits the dog really x

memphis kind ov likes wag only thing is its the rabbits food lol he goes round the cage eating any thats been thrown out and also the rabbits poop :-&

Yeah i heard wagg wasnt a good food but i guessed that myself because it is so cheap i wouldnt reccomend it

We have changed Billy's food from Hills Science because it contains
Corn, Beet pulp and Soy all which can cause allergies, skin reactions and more, to Taste of the Wild, it is dearer, but the ingredients are spot on.

Not a food I have heard of, hope Billy takes to it

in all honesty , feed your dog what the dog likes and agree's with them . it does not matter if its £9 wagg or £40 royal canine whatever if your dog looks good and is not sh**ing threw the eye of a needle what does it matter , buy what you can afford .
shady and dakota are wagg dogs at the mo they love it , they also have raw tripe , chicken and sardines and there aint nowt wrong with them on the ( low quality porpers food )

lol yea its true what niff says, if ur broke and your dog gets on with a cheap brand then its up to you! x

Wish I could,but as Niff so nicely put it 99% of foods do make her s*** through the eye of a needle!!!!!! Sigh, she eats better than me!

I've owned Staffords for almost twenty years and my dogs have tried MANY different premium dry foods.
This one I've found to be the best so far, my Rosy loves it, and she is in lovely shape and condition. When she went for her yearly booster and check up recently, the vet wanted to know what she was being fed on and said how good she looked. Hope this helps! (BTW, I'm not a rep!!)

maize is about the worst ingredient for skin complaints

I've not seen that one for sale in the shops, but it sounds a bit like James Wellbeloved - hypoallergenic & kind to sensitive stomachs.

Well after thinking about the BARF me and hubster have decided just go give bones etc as treats maybe 2 or 3 times weekly. He went off his dry food (Pero last week and wouldnt eat any of it!) So i did some research and found a guy that does Barking Heads in Darlington. Logan seems to eat it all up with no dramas AND i understand the ingredients which is good too! So think i'll be sticking with that and seeing how he does on it! Ive already noticed his little baldy spot on his back getting better.

If you find something that your dog likes & does well on, stick to it!

Bruno is on James Wellbeloved too, we are in the middle of changing him from barkers small dog which he has been fed on since we got as the lady who we brought him off was feeding him that, but our vet told us to change him to puppy food which we were going to anyway
