HELP !!! Empty HELP !!!

Post by Rhubarb666 Sun Nov 09 2014, 13:28

Hi I have a gorgeous 6 month old who is a rescue. She has been great so far but this last week she has started to bite and tug on my jeans and sleeves when coming back from a walk. She is driving me mad, apart from this she is brilliant no biting in the house no bad chewing. I have tried saying a firm no but it does nothing, I have also tried distraction with other toys but no good, if it does work it's only briefly and she starts again. She goes to puppy class but nothing is helping. Please tell me is this normal and will she grow out of it. Thank you for your help

Just keep going with the firm no, she will grow out of it if you keep it up, alot of puppys do it so dont worry well done for getting a rescue :-)

Teach her 'leave it'. Give her a toy she likes that she will take hold of. Have a treat ready, then ask her to 'leave it', and present her with the treat. She should drop the toy to take the treat. Repeat this a few times and you should find that she learns quickly that to get her treat she needs to give you or drop the toy.

The next step is to ask for 'leave it' without showing her treat first, but still give it to her when she drops the toy.

Once they have learned 'leave it', you should be able to ask for them to drop anything, including your sleeve, etc.

I moved your post to the Puppy section so that more can see it.

This is very normal behaviour & if you look at other threads on here you will see others that are going through exactly the same right now, you are not alone.

When you get a min pop along here and say Hi:-

Try corrector spray - its just compressed air in an aerosol can and simply makes the dog jump. You only need to use a very, very short burst. It worked great for Milo when he kept jumping & biting the lead (and my hand sometimes). Stopped him in his tracks & never did it again.
