Opinions needed :)
Hi guys! Hope everyones doing well.
Up until recently I've been using a crate for Harley, and I don't really have any issues with it, like she doesn't hate it and she never has "accidents" in the crate.
She's been at my mums for a week and they just let her sleep in the kitchen at night and she goes straight to the newspaper to do her business, there's been no issues with it and I figured I would just prefer her having space to properly roam whenever I'm out and she's on her own, instead of being stuck in a crate.
So I was thinking I could just leave her in my bedroom, because usually when you leave she literally just goes to sleep and that's the only room without proper furniture (a.k.a the couch/electricals etc.) other than the bed. The only worry I have is her jumping up on the bed and peeing. I'd like to leave her in my kitchen but my kitchen and living room are connected without a door haha.
Does anyone leave their puppy in a room? Have you had any issues with it? Think she'd be a little happier being left on her own with a bigger space?

mia isnt a pup she had been locked in a room in a kitchen most of her life it left her with problems she used to panic whenever i closed a door. you could give access to livingroom hall and close off your bedroom door. that way the dog isnt shut in and feeling isolated leave a radio with voices it gives them company

I wouldn't be leaving her on her own for long, I just want her to have a lot more space than in a crate, y'know?
Does your dog just roam your house when you leave? I'd like to get to that stage when she's toilet trained and doesn't chew relentlessly haha

Harrie sleeps in the kitchen and has access to the yard and shed as well and we haven't had any problems make sure you leave things that are better to chew than your furniture.

Hey! How old is she now? Is she fully house trained or still using newspaper on a regular basis? Biscuit wee'd on my bed once - an hour before my boyfriend came to stay for the first time. We had to sleep on the sofa

Nala is usually outside when we are out now that she is bigger and can be trusted not to entirely (still slightly haha) destroy our garden. But at night she is confined to one room. We have a door we can close on one side but have to use a baby gate for the other as there is no door that can lock her out of the kitchen and hallway where we have way too much junk we wouldn't want her getting at. So yeah, try a baby gate

Suki did this once as well. If she is fully trained it shouldn't be a problem. You could also close the bedroom door when you are away.

Baby gates are good; pup shouldn't feel closed in; leave radio or TV on and stuffed kong and make sure nothing harmful left around

Baxter stays in the utility room when we go out or at night, we have a dog gate which is slightly taller than a baby gate. He's happy enough with his bedroom and will go in and out by himself. He's only six months so there is no way we would give him free run of the house :-)

Re: Opinions needed :)
If you're worried about the bed just cover it with a waterproof sheet. You can buy them cheaply off Amazon. They're for nursing homes, etc. really but they'd keep any accidents off the duvet. I've used a couple for the car because Bo gets car-sick and they were a godsend.
I let Bo stay in the kitchen when I go out, with his crate door open, but he always stays in his crate until I get back, he doesn't wander around (I know because I often wash the car before I go out and I can see him through the window). Mostly I find him in exactly the same position as I left him. If you crate them from an early age and don't use the crate as punishment they soon get to seeing it as a good place to be. Bo has the run of the house when I'm in (most of the time as I work from home) but often he'll ignore his three other beds in preference to his crate in the kitchen.
I would say, though, it's a big crate (43' x 36' IIRC) and maybe he wouldn't be so eager to spend time in a space that seriously confined him.

Re: Opinions needed :)
Thanks everyone!
Dogface thanks so much, I've ordered some of the sheets just as a precaution, I doubt she'd go on the bed to do her business anyway, but it's nice to have that security haha!
I'm going to have her bed in her crate like usual, I'm just going to keep the door open just so that she has the option.
Harley is the same as your dog though, because I crate trained her she loves small spaces, like my mum has noticed that even though there's not a crate at hers, Harley will sleep in a cramped little space instead of on her massive bed haha!

Re: Opinions needed :)
Bane has always had the utility room as his bed space with a baby gate at the door. It's not massive but bigger than a crate and I thought that maybe it would be nice for him to be able to have more space.
Not sure whether he was taking advantage or bored or what but he started to chew skirting boards, walls and cupboards so he went back to having just the utility room and his behaviour returned to normal?
Baffling but I think as long as she isn't in the crate for long lengths of time and she enjoys it and sees it as her little den she would probably be more than happy just in the crate.
