Ruby is off to be spayed.
Poor Rubes is off to have her lady bits removed today.
After the nightmare with her leg at the boarding kennel, I am slightly apprehensive as she is the first female I have ever had, and I'm worried about keeping her from jumping and running around like the crazy puppy she is.
Her leg came good with the anti inflammatory course and it seems it was just a sprain. Thankfully the deplorable experience she had there hasn't affected her personality, only her manners.
At the moment she really is like an obstinate toddler. Before the boarding she was going really well with her training, now she only comes when she feels like it and getting her to sit before we cross roads is a nightmare!! LOL.
She still firmly believes every human she sees wants her to kiss them and it is quite awkward when she is wiggling and charging to those who obviously aren't dog people on our walks I have to actually raise and deepen my voice to make her sit, and then I feel mean and stupid. However when visitors come she is getting better at settling down quicker. She really just wants them to fuss over her. I guess if they don't like it they don't have to visit!
Thankfully she sleeps in her crate at night, I don't think she will very impressed with having to spend a couple of days in there though.

Aww bless her. They normally recover pretty quick from this Operation, just make sure she doesn't do any climbing and just easy walking (Easier said than done I know). Wishing you a speady recovery Ruby

Re: Ruby is off to be spayed.
Thanks for the well wishes.
She was still very groggy when I got her home yesterday afternoon, however the incision is a lot smaller than I imagined it was going to be.
This morning she has quite a bit more life in her and has had her meds and a little bit of food and then promptly laid down on the back grass and she doesn't want to come inside! Unsure how to the get the bits of sand that on her wound off and may call the vet later if it looks too bad.
We are quite lucky in Australia price wise, she weighs 15 kilos and the operation with her meds and a microchip was only $300. I'm unsure if that is comparable to you guys in UK?

Re: Ruby is off to be spayed.
My girl is getting done tomorrow. It was meant to be today but her sodium levels are too high so they are keeping her on an IV drip today and overnight to get her to a safe level.
She is 12kg and they quoted up around $500 including meds and baby teeth removal but now it will be more now because of today's stay but still, sounds like you got a good deal

Re: Ruby is off to be spayed.
Thank's Stella! She was able to have the procedure yesterday. She was in a lot of pain and discomfort (poor thing couldn't poo without moaning from pain) but she seemed to sleep it all off pretty well and was back to being an excitable puppy this morning. It's going to be very hard to keep her calm for the next week. She isn't on the usual anti inflammatory stuff they give dogs due to her medical history so hopefully the discomfort doesn't come back.

Re: Ruby is off to be spayed.
Peta did you notice any chance in Ruby's behaviour post desexing or even just during the recovery? I don't know of this is attested to her desexing but it's a week tomorrow for us and I've noticed her being a lot more bitey and biting harder. Both her toys and us. Saying 'delicate' still works but it seems that every waking minute she is wanting to chew something. I'm hoping his is just coincidental and her having a weird couple of days rather than a result of the surgery.

Re: Ruby is off to be spayed.
it may be where she has'nt been able to get out for a good run,i'm sure when you get the thumbs up from your vet to take her out again the biting will stop

I spent two nights sleeping on the sofa when Milo had his nuts chopped off so he wouldn't climb the stairs to lay on my bed

Ahh yes that would make sense. Thanks Stella! I've taken her for a couple of small walks and cafe visits but not her usual off lead runs so I hope that's it

Sounds like frustration, hopefully it'll all settle down again when she can get out for proper walks again

Re: Ruby is off to be spayed.
She had her stitches removed yesterday and she seems better already. Took her out for some coffee dates the last couple of days for an hour or so each time and that seemed to work so you guys were very right. Phew

Re: Ruby is off to be spayed.
Hi, sorry haven't been around for awhile. A few days after her spay Ruby was feeling a lot better and she was a bit naughty. Due to boredom more than anything I think. Would do zoomies any time I let her outside. Drag her toys to me and demand a game of tug, dig in the garden etc. I was only walking her once a day as per the vet recommendation. I even took her back in day eight to see if they could take her stitches out so I could take her to the beach and run some energy off because she seemed so well! They said no and I had to wait two more days.
