Too much poo!! Empty Too much poo!!

Post by ned'smumwendy Sun Sep 14 2014, 21:55

Hiya.... just joined today... we have a gorgeous male, 5 month old Staffy called Ned and as my mum says "He craps for the U.K"!! I have never known a dog like him. He poo's at least 5 times a day and sometimes there is so much poo it takes him 3 goes to unload!! I am thinking of changing his food but have no idea what would be better for him. At the moment he is on Super Premium dry puppy food (no brand name) which we get from a dog food shop recommended by the vet nurse, as she nearly had kittens when we told her he was on Bakers puppy food. Any suggestions would be gratefully received as I don't think he is getting the right nutrition as he is pooing so much and I don't want it to affect his future growth. Thanks in advance ned'smum wendy Smile

Hi and welcome, post an intro here when you get chance Big Grin

https://staffy-bull-terrier.niceboard.com/f7-new-member-introductions

Definitely sounds like it will be the food, probably too much fillers and not enough meat. This is our recommended list, jameswelbeloved and wainwrights are also reasonably good foods Big Grin

That does sound like a lot of poo, literally I mean Laughing

If you do decide to change his food please do so gradually over the course of a week - 10 days replacing the old food with new. Just mix it in gradually increasing the new food ratio to the old food. This will avoid any upset tummies.

I notice that site has recently been updated - it's really good now, especially the comparison function.

How much do you feed him? The problem with feeding a pup is the guess work. We've had to estimate the adult weight for our pup and we went for 17 -18 kg (we've judged this from her mother) which means we feed her 280g over 2 meals. We feed JWB fish and she's thriving on it. We get the poo bags out 3 times per day.

Too much poo!! Empty Not as much poo!!

Post by ned'smumwendy Tue Oct 07 2014, 22:22

Poo report....We've changed his food, Ned is now on Fish4Dogs large bite and he loves it. Mixed it in with his old food and he just picked the new bits out!! We give him approx. 300g a day but he's a grazer so never really eats it all at once.
Not pooing as much, but he has now started eating it Surprised so gonna have to try and discourage that. Problem is when we go out he's left in a large pen so has the poo all to himself at wits end
Advice on how to get him out of this habit would be well received. Thanks in advance Smile
