What's the best age for desexing?
Hi, my little Bowie is 13 weeks old, just wondering when the best time was for her to get desexed?
Thanks
Thanks

We are going to wait until after her 2nd season. It'll help her mature and settle a little.

I mean she will have matured and settled. I'm not suggesting it will calm her.

It's best to wait until she has had a season or two. If you do it prior to that she won't be able to fully mature and may have issues with UTI for life.

Ok thanks guys, I was under the impression that you had to get onto it really quickly… but that makes sense. Thanks!

I had the same thought process as well but it truly is better to wait awhile

Re: What's the best age for desexing?
Our local dog day care centre rule is, if it's over 6 months it has to be neutered. I asked their trainer what she thought and she's against it but it's company policy.
I have also read a study that said the earlier they are neutered the risk of breast cancer is lower. Once they've had 6 seasons and are done the chance of getting it will not be decreased by neutering.

I would advise waiting until she's had a couple of seasons too

Re: What's the best age for desexing?
Some vets recommend spaying before first season; even one of my most admired vets does, but I don't agree. I would wait until 18 months, personally.

Re: What's the best age for desexing?
We waited until our little blue boy, Doug, was 6 months. It calmed him down considerably as he was a little ball of energy.
Some people said it would stunt his growth, but he's always been on the smaller side - so I don't know if desexing attributed to his smaller stature.

Oh okay, I definitely wouldn't mind Bowie being a bit more calm! As long as everything else was fine
