Redness/pink around neck area
Whilst sitting with Sky tonight, I took her collar off for some reason and as I did I noticed that she has like a line in her fur where the collar was. It is almost like there is some chaffing going on around her neck. I would argue it is more pink, no blood and a little bit where it is quite red.
I never really take her collar off, as I'd always like her to have her tag on incase she got out! I've took if off for the time being , but is this normal, or something I should be worried about? or do I need a better collar?
The collar wasn't even tight, but she does have the typical little rolls of fur around the neck.
James.

Sounds like it's irritating, is it all the way around her neck?

No it just round the front neck area a the front. None around the back, but naturally the fur under her neck is quite thin.

It does sound like it's irratated. We always take Suki's collar off in the house.

Does it have a metal buckle? Could be a reaction to that?

Yeah it does a metal buckle, like them polished brass ones. Can you get them without buckles? or fur lined?

Might start leaving Sky's off whilst in the house, see if it calms down.

Sounds irritated, I only ever use the plastic clasps on collars, best to leave collar off when at home they can get caught on things easily xx

I always leave mias collar off in the house do as inez says and get a collar with a plastic clasp, as the dog lies down the collar tightens and will dig into the skin and fur. I always massage mias neck after the collars off. If you are worried the dog escapes whenever you try and leave the house invest in a dog gate it has the same mechanism
As a baby gate .
