Very young pup advice please
My pup Sasha was only 5 weeks when I bought her last week, I know this is too young but the guy I bought her from was telling me that he was selling her that day either way as someone else wanted her as she was the only bitch he had. The only reason I took her home that young is because if she was going anyway it may as well be to me.
She is eating and drinking well, dry puppy food and cooked chicken.
Very playful and loves her sleep.
She gets up after sleep and goes toilet.
We have started training already and she will sit for a treat.
She is playing with my other dog and following her around.
Is there anything I should be doing apart from the normal puppy care ?
It will be a couple of weeks before her vaccinations, should I be worried ?

You have to love the mentality of some people, If she seems happy and healty and is doing everything she should be. Eating, drinking, sleeping etc then I would say not to worry too much. If you really want to set your mind at ease, then ask a vet to sheck her over and make sure everything is fine, they may also be able to give you some expert advice.

I think she is doing really well for her age, she knows when to go to the toilet(most of the time), she has learned how to sit in two 15 minute sessions, Im just a bit worried about catching something before she gets her vacs.Mooch12003 wrote:2qk4u wrote:My pup Sasha was only 5 weeks when I bought her last week, I know this is too young but the guy I bought her from was telling me that he was selling her that day either way as someone else wanted her as she was the only bitch he had.

5 weeks is so young. I would personally have a vet check her out anyway. You said you have another dog, and there bonding well, for peace of mind I would at least have a chat to a vet. x

Wow that is young!!You might want to get one of the replacements for mothers milk to help with her nutrition and immune system.I would suggest a vet visit to get her deworming started and to check her general health.Keep us posted on her progress...

Yes you can get the it at most pet supply stores...It is made for orphaned pups and mothers that struggle with large litters. There are many brands so maybe get someone to help decide at the store.

You can get the milk substitute from a pet store, but I'd go to a vet for the wormers. She's still far too young for the ones you get over the counter, especially as they should be every 2 weeks until she's 3 months, then every month till she's 6 months & then every 3 months.
You really ought to take her to a vet anyway, just so that they are aware that you have such a young pup, and to make sure that everything you're doing is right & that she's fit & healthy (I know she seems to be, but it's best to let a vet check her anyway).
Good luck, I'm sure you'll be a great owner for her!

Re: Very young pup advice please
5 weeks is the age most pups are weaned, so offer some soft foods other than the chicken like rice pudding. The problem with your pup not having that last 3 weeks with its mum is that it has misseed out on a lot of mental development and constructive playtime. A dog's mum is the best one to discipline and teach it the lessons of life, try and take your pup around as many safe dogs (who have had their vaccines) as possible to help her socialise.
